Boldings report

Boldings Report 1/9/09.

Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools) was the most successful angler at Boldings Pools this week, with a win and two second places to add to his recent run of frame appearances.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) featured in two frames, and started the week with a win on the Monday Affordable open, fished on the Oak Pool. Eric was on peg 29 and offered pellet at 5 metres, as well as close in, to find carp to 5lbs, for a total of 51-3-0.

Along at peg 24 Neil Mansfield (Wem) pushed the winner right to the end on the match, and had a level 49-0-0 on corn and pellet at 4 metres and in the side.

Opposite Mansfield, Rod Arnold (Cannock) scaled 43-10-0 to just hold off Harry Colley (OB Wolves) who had 43-1-0 at peg 32.

Terry Slater (Baggeridge) improved on his mid-week runner up last week to win the Thursday open this week, when he drew peg 24 on the Sycamore. Opting for paste on the close in line worked and Terry netted carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs on his way to the top with 92-1-0.

Kevin Melville had the first of his two runner up placings on this match, and it came with a pool best from the Chestnut. He was on peg 1 and fished corn and pellet to the weed bed and into the edge to net 80-11-0 of carp to 7lbs. Richard Lawson (Maver Midlands) had 77-5-0 at Sycamore 50 for third and Eric Bancroft framed again with 69-8-0 from Sycamore 33.

Melville scored his win on the Saturday match when he had carp to 5lbs on corn and pellet, fished close in and at 6 metres, at peg 10 on the Middle Pool. By the time the whistle went, Kevin had dropped 96-2-0 into the net, which gave him a narrow margin over Shane Rogers (Sonubaits). He was on the Stock pool and used the same bait combination as the winner to net carp to 6lbs from each side of the peg, to finish on 92-9-0.

Steve Roberts (R&G) netted a Hawthorn best of 88-6-0 for third, leaving Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonu) to finish things off with 79-8-0 at Stock peg 4.

Weights were down a bit on Sunday, but gave a tight frame, headed by Dave Matson (R&G) at Oak peg 11with 64-13-0 on pellet and corn close in.

Up at the corner of the dam wall, on Oak peg 5, Steve Roberts framed again, moving up a place to finish second with a corn fed 63-5-0. Best on the Chestnut and third overall was Pete Tolley (OB Wolves) on 61-12-0 at peg 32, and also on the Chestnut was 4th man Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) with 61-2-0.

On the bank Holiday match Pete Tolley moved up from third the previous day to win with the best weight of the week, 112-0-0. He was on peg 13 on the Sycamore and used the in form bait combo of corn and pellet to pick off carp to 9lbs from the 4 metre line, and from each side of the point.

Kevin Melville had his best weight of the week, and also beat the 100lbs mark, but had to settle for second with his 101-5-0 from corner peg 4 on the Sycamore.

Third went to another Sycamore catch when Ed Turner (OBW) scaled 90-2-0 at peg 34, and a Chestnut best of 86-4-0 gave Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) fourth.
