Boldings report

Boldings Report 30/12/08.

Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Angling Centre) recorded the top weight of the week at Boldings Pools, and the biggest winning margin, when he doubled the runner up weight on the Sunday open, when the top three catches came from the Ash Pool.

Kel drew peg 7 and worked maggot at 12 metres to find carp to 5lbs for a final total of 63-12-0.

Down at the end of the Ash Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) offered pellet and maggot on the pole at 10 metres at peg 23 for 31-9-0 of carp from 1lb to 3lbs. Close behind Mick, at peg 14 on the Ash was Dave Brown (Maver Midlands) with 29-6-0. Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) and Dave Craggs (OB Wolves) shared 5th, each with a pool best of 26-12-0, Eric topping the Beech card and Dave the Deepdale.

Competitors on the Wednesday open at Boldings enjoyed mild conditions, with temperatures of 10c, a complete contrast to the rest of the week. Nige Clarke (RAF Trabuco) made the most of the warmth with a 58-11-0 winner, taken on pellet at 8 metres from peg 5 on the Larch Pool. John Francis (R &G) was next to the winner and also caught on pellet, but a smaller stamp of fish left him some way short of top spot on 42-10-0. Also on the Larch was third man Rino Stanko (Oakengates Ang Cent) who scaled 38-2-0 at peg 1. Fourth went to a Sycamore best of 38-3-0 by Phil Rhodes (Mid Leisure).

On Thursday the temperature had dropped to not much above freezing, with a biting east wind and weights dropped accordingly, leaving Mick Jameson to win with a hard earned 23-8-0. Ash peg 7 featured again, with a catch of small carp on pellet at 8 metres giving Mick the victory to add to his Sunday second.

Pete Tolley (OBW)  fished corn to the island and in the channel at peg 5 on the Hawthorn to claim second by 12 ounces. He had 21-12-0 at the whistle, while Dave Barnard (R&G) had a level 21-0-0 at Ash peg 9. Mel Kitson (R& G) was only a further 10 ounces behind in 4th when he scaled 20-6-0 at Hawthorn peg 3.

Last week-ends double winner Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) picked up another first on Saturday, putting peg 13 on the Sycamore back on the winning peg list for the first time in a while. Matt offered pellet and maggot at 6 metres, and close in to the point for 33-12-0 of carp to 4lbs to seal his win.

Gary Morris (OBW) had a load of small carp in the 4oz to 6oz class, fishing pellet close in at corner peg 16 on the Sycamore, and was well clear of third with 32-1-0.

Third came from Sycamore peg 2 when Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) weighed 21-8-0 to pip a Chestnut best of 21-6-0 by Stuart Aston (Swan Jacks).

Boldings report

Boldings Report 25/12/08.

Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) chose the right week-end to notch up a winning double at Boldings Pools, with his first leg win coming on Saturdays big Fur & Feather, when seventy two anglers gathered at the complex. Fittingly, it was the Chestnut Pool which provided Matt with the win which filled his arms with Christmas goodies. He drew peg 37, and combined pellet with maggot, fished at 5 metres and 10 metres to pick up carp to 5lbs for a final weight of 39-1-0.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) was over at peg 13 on the same pool, where he too combined pellet and maggot, fished at 8 metres for carp to 4lbs and bream to 3lbs, totaling 33-3-0.

Sean Barber (Maver) had the top score on the Larch, 28-13-0 for third, then it was back to the Chestnut for 26-15-0 from 4th man Andy Williams (Dorset Pools).

The following day Matt had a similar weight to win again, this time from the Hawthorn Pool. Pellet and maggot did the trick again, alternated between fishing into the corner, and out to the island, with carp to 5lbs again making up the winning total, which was 39-7-0.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) offered maggot at 10 metres at peg 31 on the Chestnut for a mix of carp and bream scaling 30-0-0, which saw him just nick second from Pete Plant (Maver). Pete was on peg 3 on the Hawthorn, and finished two ounces short of Colin on 29-14-0.

Dave Brown (Maver) netted 26-12-0 at point peg 28 on the Chestnut for 4th.

Carl Foster (OB Wolves) also recorded a double top at Boldings, with victories in both mid-week matches, and like Stobbs, they both came from different pools. The first was on the Wednesday open when he fished maggot into the corner at Stock Pool peg 4 to pick off carp from 1lb to 3lbs on his way to 36-10-0.

Runner up Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver) had similar sized fish at Ash peg 14, where he alternated between 5 metres and 10 with pellet, to finish on 30-10-0.

A hawthorn best of 27-10-0 gave Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent ) third at peg 11, and at Hawthorn 5 John Wild (Stafford) scaled 22-11-0 in 4th.

Carl drew peg 21 on the Chestnut on Thursday and switched between the close in line and fishing to the island with pellet and maggot for a winning 31-5-0.

Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) fished pellet at 10 metres at peg 49 on the Sycamore to net a mix of carp and bream for 27-1-0 and second place. Kevin Melville (Dorset Pools) had 25-3-0 from peg 13 on the Sycamore for third and Graham Roberts (OBW) completed the top four with 23-8-0 from Chestnut 37.

Chris Holmes (Bridgnorth AS) eased himself 4lbs clear of a close battle for the minor placings on an icy Sunday open, by fishing maggot and corn at 12 metres to net 39-7-0 of carp to 6lbs at peg 49 on the Sycamore.

Behind him, OB Wolves rods Paul Cartwright and Tony Foster were separated by only 6ozs, with Paul claiming second spot thanks to 35-6-0 at peg 4 on the Sycamore. Boldings report

Boldings Report 10/12/08.

The paddles were hard at work keeping Boldings Pools clear of ice, but even here the pools began to freeze during the match on Sunday when the paddles were switched off during fishing.

With no Wednesday match this week, Pete Tolly kicked the action off on Thursday, winning a close battle with Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun). Pete was on peg 9 on the Hawthorn Pool, where corn, fished at 8 metres and into the corner gave him figures of 31-13-0, which consisted of carp to 5lbs.

Mel was on peg 1 on the Middle Pool, and fished caster to the paddles to net 31-8-0 of carp in the 1lb to 3lbs bracket. Third also came from the Middle Pool when another Rod & Gun man, Eric Bancroft, scaled 28-3-0 at peg 5.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) was the only angler on the Beech Pool to frame on Saturday when he led the way to the prizes with a 27-8-0 winner, which beat three weights from the Hawthorn. Mick alternated between 7 metres and 10 metres with pellet and maggot to pick off carp to 4lb.

Over at peg 3 on the Hawthorn Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver) offered corn and maggot at 10 metres, and he also found carp to 4lbs for 24-2-0 which gave him second for the second Saturday on the trot. Opposite Andy, at peg 11, Rino Stanko (Oakengates Ang Cent) scaled 23-7-0 for a close third, with Graham Roberts (OB Wolves) netting 20-2-0 at paddles peg 15 for 4th.

Middle peg 1 featured again on Sunday, helping Graham Roberts (OBW) to claim the winners purse. He opted for maggot bait, fishing to the paddles and close in to pick up carp to 5lbs on his way to 37-8-0 as the ice formed.

Arthur Wood (Oswestry) topped the Beech Pool card to take second overall with 28-11-0, which came to corn at peg 5. Middle peg11 saw Dave White (Maver) scale 25-15-0 in third and a Deepdale Pool best of 18-6-0 took 4th for another Maver rod, Pete Plant
