Still no joy for the river match anglers this week, although levels did get tantalizingly close to fishable, and pleasure anglers were able to seek out some likely spots to enjoy some sport, but care was needed on the slippery banks, and snow melt made fish hard to tempt. At least the high water levels should mean that there will be some salmon about for the keen game rods to have a go at when conditions permit.

Most matchmen headed for the still water venues, where they faced another week of cold winds. Wednesday was the best day at Boldings, both weather wise and catch wise, with a bright day after a frosty start giving Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) the chance to record the best catch of the week, while scoring the first of a mid week double win. Peg 18 on the Ash Pool responded to Mick’s pellet approach and he picked off carp in the 1lb to 3lb bracket at 8 metres to move well ahead of the rest, ending the day on 58-6-0.

Over at corner peg 9, Andy Williams (Rod & Gun) finished second for the second Wednesday on the trot after he dropped 41-11-0 on the scales, having caught on pellet and corn fished close in. Diagonally opposite Andy, John Wild (Stafford) added a third to win of last week by netting 37-11-0 at peg 22, and Colin Reynolds (Bilston AC) finished a close 4^th on 36-7-0 at peg 16.

Jameson fished pellet again on Thursday, this time to take fish close at corner peg 11 on the Middle Pool, with the same stamp of fish which made up his Wednesday winner adding up to 41-10-0 this time. On the other side of the pool Brian Clarke (BCUK) included some roach of around a pound with carp to 6lbs in his 35-8-0, which came to maggot, up in the water. Round at peg 6 Ed Turner (OB Wolves) grabbed third with 24-12-0.

Colin Reynolds got in the frame again on a bitterly cold Saturday, claiming first place form peg 11 on the Stock Pool, where 12 metre pellet at 12 metres reaped a harvest of carp to 4lbs for a total of 40-5-0. Runner up Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) fished maggot, up in the water at peg 6 on the Ash for 33-12-0, almost half of which was chub to around a pound, with the rest being carp to 3lbs.

Directly opposite Matson was another Rod & Gun man, John Francis, who netted 29-9-0 at peg 16 for third, and Mick Jameson was in the prize list again, scaling 28-14-0 in 4^th.

Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) stepped up to the mark on Sunday after drawing corner peg 14 on the Ash. Small carp in the 1lb to 3lb range made up a 35-8-0 winner for Dave, who offered pellet with 10 metre pole. Matt Stobbs (Rod & Gun) maintained his form by taking second. He was on Ash 4, and found chub and carp with shallow fished maggot to weigh 31-9-0, ahead of Colin Reynolds who framed for the third time with a third best 28-11-0 at Ash 18. Only 10 ounces behind Reynolds was Mel Kitson (R&G) on 28-1-0 at Ash 7.
