Boldings report

A WINTER TON FOR SWAN ROD ASTON.

Before the snow struck to cancel the Thursday open at Boldings, Stuart Aston (Swan JT) enjoyed a winter warmer on the Hawthorn Pool at Boldings on Wednesday, when the temperature dropped to minus 8c. He warmed himself up by putting together a superb net of 100-12-0.

Stuart drew peg 3 on the Hawthorn, and fished to the middle of the pool with corn, on the pole at 12 metres, to tempt carp to 7lbs.

Over on the Middle Pool, Mel Kitson (R&G) could have been forgiven for having expectations of winning as he netted carp to 5lbs regularly on corn and pellet, close in, on his way to 53-1-0. As it was Mel finished a distant, but safe second, with Pete Plant (Maver Tipton) taking third with 46-8-0 from the Hawthorn. Dave Barnard (Maver Wolves) was in the corner on the Hawthorn, and scaled 32-12-0 for 4th.

There was still plenty of snow around the fishery on Saturday, but not enough to stop proceedings, and not enough to prevent Nige Clarke (RAF Trabuco) adding another win to his double of last week. Having top prizes from the Ash and the Middle pools last week, Nige did it from the Oak this week. Pellet at 10 metres and close in at peg 16 saw him pull well ahead of the rest, with carp to 6lbs adding up to 47-8-0. On the opposite side of the Oak, one of last weeks winners, Gary Morris (OB Wolves) nipped into second with 27-0-0 on corn and pellet at ‘point’ peg 29. Mel Kitson completed another good week with another frame appearance, taking an Ash Pool best of 26-2-0 for third overall. Also on the Ash was 4th placed Dave Brown (Maver Tipton) on 21-15-0.

Maver Tipton rods made off with most of the prize money on Sunday, as Simon Richardson and Pete Plant took first and second.

Simon was on peg 4 on the Deepdale and netted a mixture of carp to 4lbs and bream to 2lbs, on pellet at 12 metres to tip 43-4-0 into the weigh net. Pete worked with pellet at 8 metres at Middle peg 3 for 37-12-0 of carp in the 1lb to 5lbs bracket.

Right across from the winner on the Deepdale, at peg 12, Dave Hailey (WAC Tac) found 32-4-0 for third, and right opposite the runner up on the Middle Pool, Graham Roberts handed up 31-2-0 for 4th.
