BOLDINGS REPORT  16-4-13.

 

 

The average match weight continued to rise at Boldings Pools this week, with seven weights of over 100lbs recorded in the four matches.

With no Monday match Gary Morris [PI Boldings] started the ball rolling with a Wednesday ‘ton up’ victory from peg 21 on the Chestnut. Carp to 4lbs and barbel to 3lbs kept Gary busy as they hoovered up his pellet and corn, fished at 4 metres as well as in the margins, and at the finish he had 105-14-0 to hand over to the scales.

Round at peg 36 Graham Palmer [Fitters] also had carp and barbel, taking them on pellet, close in and at 5 metres, and while his carp were a little bigger, he was 22lbs short at the end, weighing in 83-2-0. Josh Humphries [ABC] made the frame with a Larch pool top weight of 72-14-0, which put him into third overall, and at chestnut 13 Carl Foster [PI Bold] wrapped things up on a very windy day with 69-6-0 for fourth.

 

The windswept Thursday match went the way of Gary Gollins [Swan Elite] as he fished pellet at 6 metres and across to the far bank at peg 31 on the Oak, to keep in touch with carp in the 1lb to 3lb range, for a finishing total of 75-0-0.

Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] fished along the dam wall and into the corner at Oak 5, using pellet to tempt 63-7-0 of carp to 5lbs. Up by the island at peg 22 Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] was close behind the runner up with 62-13-0, and close behind him was Josh Humphries with another pool best, this time from the Beech, where he weighed 62-6-0.

 

The week-end brought a dramatic increase in the weights, and the Saturday match gave an all ton top four, headed by Howard Williams, who stepped up from second place on Thursday to take victory from peg 13 on the Sycamore. Fishing down the shelf with pellet found carp to 8lbs, accompanied by barbel to 3lbs, and Howard needed every one of the fish he landed, as his 109-1-0 gave him only 1lb to spare.

The man in hot pursuit was Roy Rigby [Dorset AC] who was on the end bank of the Sycamore at peg 46, and mixed bream to 3lbs with carp to 7lbs for a level 108-0-0. Roy had his fish on pellet down the side and at 5 metres. At peg 8 Keith Powell [PI Bold] was only a pound and quarter off second when he scaled 106-12-0, and fourth placed Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] was only one behind third, and one fish behind first with 106-11-0 at peg 39.

 

The Willows Pool gave the top catch of the week again, a superb 151-3-0, which was hammered out by Dave Hailey [PI Bold] at peg 18. Shallow fished pellet got the fish going for Dave, with ghosties to 5lbs making up the bulk of his catch.

Frame regular Colin Wozek [Matrix Total Angling] also caught well, opposite the winner at peg 4, and he too used shallow pellet, to put 139-7-0 of carp to 6lbs on the scales to pick up second.

BOLDINGS REPORT  16-4-13.

 

 

          Tony Foster [PI Boldings] was the first winner of the week when some decent Spring weather finally arrived at Boldings Pools, although on the Monday when Tony took his victory there was little sign of the higher temperatures to come.

          He was pegged on Beech 29 and fished towards the point with pellet at 14 metres to make contact with carp to 6lbs, which helped him to figures of 72-13-0.

          Around in the corner at peg 3 on the Beech Eric Bancroft proved the only threat to the winner, finishing just under 7lbs behind on 65-12-0.

A Hawthorn Pool best of less than half Bancroft’s weight, 30-1-0, gave third to last Mondays winner Matt Stockton [Maver] who was just one ounce ahead of the level 30-0-0 recorded by Rob Hancox [Kings] at Beech peg 18.

 

On the Oak Pool on Wednesday Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] claimed the coin by fishing maggot and pellet at 10 metres from peg 16 for a catch of carp to 4lbs totaling 52-13-0,. Darren Cook [PI Bold] had 44-11-0 from corner peg 31 to finish second with Dave Cook [PI Bold] third on 41-5-0 at peg 22.

 

In the build up to Saturdays big Fish O’ Mania qualifier Brian Clarke [Colmic Marukyu] helped himself to the Thursday winners pot after drawing an island peg on the Chestnut. Fishing pellet and maggot at 14 metres found carp and bream, with samples to 4lbs building a 70-2-0 top score of the day.

Matt Stobbs [Oakengates Ang Cent] to a level 63-0-0 at corner peg 4 on the Sycamore to put his name on second prize. Eric Bancroft was in the mix again, picking up a third this time when he scaled 59-0-0 at Sycamore peg 8, and at peg 49 on the same pool Dave Barnard [Rod & Gun] kept the frame weights over the 50lbs mark by weighing 57-2-0 to take 4^th.

 

There were 130 hopefuls lining the banks for the Fish O’ on Saturday, all with the knowledge that at the end of the day 129 of them would be disappointed.

The one who was celebrating after the weigh in was Darren Cox [Kamasan Starlets] who booked his place in the big money final thanks to a net of 82-7-0 from corner peg 6 on the Sycamore. Darren picked off F1s with shallow pellet, fished at 14 metres, which he backed up with bonus bigger carp, up to 10lbs, which fell to close in tactics.

Andy Moors [Maver Pickering’s] finished an agonizing one fish short of the mark at peg 5 on the Larch, where carp to 4lbs, taken shallow pellet, came to 78-11-0.

Jonathan Trivett [Rose & Crown] was opposite the winner on Sycamore peg 48, and had 70-4-0 of carp to 4lbs on shallow pellet and maggot to fill third spot, while an Ash Pool best of 60-1-0 gave Sean Barber [Maver Sonubaits] fourth.

 

The warm weather of Sunday brought the fish onto the feed and the top two beat the hundred pound mark, with only a pound and half separating them.

Simon Christian [Old Ghost] was the one who edged ahead, catching carp, including ghosties to 5lbs together with barbel, on pellet at peg 17 on the Willows. When the scales had done their work, Simon had figures of 107-2-0.

At Sycamore peg 4 Jamie Longford [Maver Midlands] had carp to 6lbs on shallow pellet and maggot, and from the margins to finish on 105-10-0.
