Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  27-6-12.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was back to his Monday winning ways this week at Boldings Pools and winning a peg to peg battle with Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) on the Willows Pool. Colin drew peg 8 and worked pellet and corn across to the far bank to pick off carp to 6lbs together with barbel to 2lbs, which added up to 105-2-0 at the finish.

Round at peg 9 Ian went out to 12 metres with shallow pellet which attracted mainly ghosties to 4lbs, and when the whistle went he needed a couple more fish, as the scales stopped at 100-9-0.

Jason Atwell (Kingswinford) finished in third, he was top weight on the Acorn Pool with an even 82-0-0 from peg 1 and at Acorn 7 Colin Wozak (Telford) was only 9 ounces behind on 81-7-0.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had top weight of the week to add to his ever growing list of results at Boldings, when he headed the Wednesday card from peg 32 on the Beech. Carp to 8lbs homed in on his pellet bait, presented on the 3 metre line and down the side to give a return of 151-10-0.

In the corner at Beech 3, Tony Foster (PI Boldings) mixed roach to 1lb with carp to 6lbs, fishing pellet to each side of the peg, to weigh 109-2-0 for second. Richard Duke (BAS) finished third for the second Wednesday running when he scaled 92-0-0 at Beech 23, and a Hawthorn top weight of 87-6-0 saw Neil Mansfield (Wem) into 4th.

PI Boldings rods filled the frame on Thursday with Paul Evans topping the list with an Oak Pool catch. He was on peg 29, and fished to the side of the tree with caster. He was kept busy with roach small carp throughout the match, and by the end had amassed 101-3-0.

The rest of the top four were all on the Sycamore with only 4.5lbs separating them. Second went to Paul Ferguson at peg 22 where pellet and corn put 86-7-0 of carp to 8 lbs on the scales. Gary Morris netted 84-9-0 at point peg 13 for third, and Graham Roberts had 83-14-0 at peg 25.

The Sycamore provided the top two catches on Saturday when Danny Boden (Oakengates Ang Cent) put his name on the winners envelope. Having drawn peg 50, Danny decided on fishing down the ledge with corn and pellet, which paid off to the tune of 89-15-0, made up with carp to 8lbs.

In the middle of the long bank, at peg 30, Colin Reynolds added a second place to his earlier winner by taking a mixture of carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs on pellet at 5 metres and in the side. Les Thompson (Rod & Gun) was top man on the Beech, and third overall with 76-15-0 from peg 16, and back on the Sycamore fellow Rod & Gun man John Francis scaled 74-12-0 for 4th at peg 48.

Weights were up on Sunday, with the top four all topping the ton. Best of them was Carl Jones (Maver) who fished to the paddles and in the margins with corn and pellet at Hawthorn 15 to total 125-4-0.

Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang cent) fished maggot to each side of the point at Beech 7 to finish one fish behind on 120-8-0. Mick Jameson had his second framer of the week, taking third by one ounce from Dave Matson (R&G). Mick’s 106-8-0 came from Hawthorn 5, and Dave had 106-7-0 at Beech 16.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  19-6-12.

The Monday Affordable open on the Sycamore Pool at Boldings Pools went the way of Tony McGuire (Perry House) at the start of a wet and windy week, after he drew peg 5, not one of the noted pegs. Fishing pellet into the corner did enough to put a level 72-0-0 in the net, which was just a little too good for the rest.

Runner up Paul Ferguson (PI Boldings) fished to each side of peg 13 to net 68-6-0 which put him 8 ounces ahead of Godfrey Wood (Total Angling) at peg 2. Next to Godfrey At peg 3 Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) had 63-8-0 for 4th.

Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) recorded the best weight of the week at the complex to win the Wednesday match. He made point peg 7 on the Beech count with a shallow pellet attack at 12 metres, which found mainly carp in the 1lb to 3lb range, with the odd better sample to 7lbs helping to build a total of 137-1-0-0.

Ben Brisbourne (Tricast Weston) alternated fishing down the side of Beech 11 with shallow pellet at 12 metres to take his 119-6-0 runner up. At Beech 29 Richard Duke (BAS) had 101-1-0 for third and a Hawthorn best of 91-9-0 gave Colin Wozak (Telford) 4th.

Eric Bancroft improved on his 4th on Monday to win on Thursday, when he drew corner peg 30 on the Sycamore. Maggot close in and pellet at 6 metres found carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs for 101-13-0 top score. That put Eric 10lbs clear of Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) who led the way on the Chestnut with a weight of 91-7-0, taken on pellet at 4 metres. Back on the Sycamore Gary Morris (PI Bold) had 87-3-0 for third at peg 21, and at peg 33 85-11-0 put Harry Colley (PI Bold) into 4th.

A mix of carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs put Mitch Davidson (Maver Bag’m Baits) ahead of the field on the Sycamore on Saturday. Drawn on peg 13, Mitch worked pellet at 4 metres, and to each side of the point to record 86-15-0.

Pellet at 6 metres combined with corn down the side at peg 21 helped John Francis (R&G) to 83-4-0, which featured carp to 8lbs with barbel to 2lbs. Mick Jameson was in the frame for the second time, his 55-4-0 from peg 8 giving him third by a whisker from Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) on 55-2-0 at peg 27.

The Ash Pool produced a string of good weights on Sunday, led by 129-14-0 from Gareth Emlyn (Oak Ang Cent). Carp to 6lbs homed in on his pellet bait, fished at 5 metres and close in at peg 16, to give a return of 129-14-0.

Next door at peg 14 Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) fished up in the water with pellet as well as close in and had mix of carp to 3lbs and roach to 1lb in a bag of 121-11-0 for second. Peg 18 yielded 116-2-0 for Tim Probert (PI Bold) and making it four pegs on the same bank, Dave Barnard (R&G) had 102-2-0. Top man on the Oak was Martin Harrell (Maver) on 99-9-0 at peg 8.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  13-6-12.

The Queens Jubilee Two Day Festival, fished on the double Bank Holiday at Boldings Pools, produced the closest of finishes, with no less than three competitors finishing the event with an excellent three penalty points. That left overall weight to be the decider as to where the prizes went.

Mitch Davidson (Maver Gold) made the best of starts with a day one victory which saw him take a lot of fish by fishing pellet to the island at Chestnut peg 23. His catch of carp in the 1lb to 3lb range with barbel to 2lbs added up to 135-4-0.

Next to Mitch on peg 21 Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) worked pellet at 6 metres and corn on the inside and found carp to 8lbs together with bream to 2lbs, but a slower catch rate left him just under 15lbs short of the winner on 120-11-0.

Third on the day went to a Sycamore top score of 104-15-0, taken by Jason Elwell (Phil’s Tackle) at peg 33, and back on the Chestnut Kevin Melville (Maver Total Angling) claimed 4th with 92-8-0 at peg 30.

Day two saw Les Thompson Matrix Bait Tech) move up from 5th on day one to first place. He was round the other side of the Chestnut island at peg 27 and offered pellet to the island combined with meat close in to record a very similar weight to the day one winner, 135-10-0, which was mainly small carp, with the odd sample to 6lbs helping the cause.

Steve Owen was runner up again, with a weight which varied from his first days effort by only one ounce when he scaled 120-12-0. This time Steve was on the Sycamore peg 24, and included carp to 9lbs, caught to each side of the peg on corn and pellet.

Scott Doodson (Preston Innov) made a three ton top three by scaling 101-14-0 at Sycamore 13 and Jason Elwell was in the mix again, taking 4th from peg 16 on the Chestnut with 88-5-0.

Steve Owen, Les Thompson and Jason Elwell were the three to finish on 3 points, Steve was the overall winner with an aggregate weight of 241-7-0, Les had a total of 223-0-0 to take second and Jason had 193-4-0 for third. Fourth overall was Mitch Davidson with 5 points, Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) and Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) both scored 8 points, with Sean getting 5th thanks to a better aggregate.

The Beech Pool came up with a winner for Carl Foster (PI Boldings) on Wednesday, when his was the best of another trio of 100lb catches. Bread punch over pellet fond the fish for Carl at Beech 32 with carp to 8lbs coming to 133-6-0.

Hard on the heels of the winner was Dave Craggs (Maver) at Beech 5, where caster and corn on the inside line put carp to 7lbs in the net for 13-4-0.

Colin Wozak (Telford) led the Willows catches with a level 100-0-0 from peg 5, which just pipped the 99-9-0 recorded by Clive Wynn (Tricast Weston) at Willows 8.

John Wild (Stafford) won from Oak peg 31 on Thursday when pellet at 5 metres and close in netted 82-7-0 of carp to 6lbs.  Second came from the Ash, with Tim Morris (Middle Severn Angling) weighing in a level 79-0-0 at peg 16. His catch came to pellet and paste on the 8 metre line and close in. At Oak 13 Danny Boden (Oak Ang Cent) scaled 78-4-0 for a close third and Gareth Emlyn (OAC) had his 4th placed 74-13-0 from Ash 14.

The top three in the Festival all featured in the frame on Sunday too, with Jason Elwell picking up first prize with the top weight of the week, 156-8-0. Having drawn Chestnut 32, Jason offered pellet at 6 metres, alternated with corn and paste down the side to pick off carp to 8lbs, interspersed with bream to 3lbs.

Phil Taylor (Wolves) had carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs fishing pellet at 5 metres and corn close in at Chestnut 13 to end with 135-3-0.

Festival winner Steve Owen picked up third from Chestnut 7 where he weighed 117-13-0, and Les Thompson completed a big weight top four with 114-15-0, which was an Oak Pool best.
