Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  21-3-12.

Andy Williams (Vespe) was an easy winner of the Monday open at Boldings Pools, taking his victory at peg 48 on the Sycamore. Pellet at 6 metres and in the margins brought carp t 8lbs and bream to 3lbs to the net regularly for figures of 94-14-0.

Round at peg 20 Eric Bancroft (R&G) fished maggot down the side and pellet out at 6 metres to find carp and barbel for a level 55-0-0 which put him in second place. Keith Powell (PI Boldings) was three pegs away from the winner at peg 45 and had 53-6-0 for third and on point peg 8 Paul Butler (Dorset Pools) was a close 4th on 51-9-0.

On the Oak Pool on Wednesday point peg 29 came up with the goods for Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) when pellet at 6 metres and close in caught the attention of carp from 1lb to 4lbs to give a 65-11-0 winner. Along at peg 27 Keith Perrin (Tipton) offered corn and pellet at 5 metres and to the stumps to finish a close second with 63-4-0 which included carp to 6lbs.

Andy Williams made the list again, his 59-11-0 giving him third at peg 18 and at peg 4 on the dam, Jeff Harston (Wrexham) had 55-9-0 in 4th.

From Thursday on Chestnut peg 23 became the hot property at Boldings, providing no less than three winning weights. John Wild (Stafford) was first benefit when carp and barbel on pellet fished to the island gave a return of 83-12-0.

Alwyn Moreton (Kings) fished to the other side of the island from peg 28 and he too included carp and barbel in his runner up 81-9-0. At peg 7 Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) scaled 76-9-0 in third and opposite him at peg 34 Brian Clarke (Marukyu Vespe) weighed 67-11-0 in 4th.

Mitch Davidson (Maver Gold) drew the hot peg on both days of the week-end, and made the most of it both times, to record the top two weights of the week.

Saturday gave the top weight when Mitch had a lot of small carp with a few better samples to 7lbs on pellet fished to the island, which added up to 112-2-0 at the whistle.

At peg 30 Andrew Danks (Red Star) had all his fish close in on corn and pellet, with carp to 6lbs totalling 95-0-0.

Clive Wynn Weston Tricast) has had an excellent month at Bodings and added another third to his list of placings by topping the Sycamore list with 66-10-0 at peg 13. Fourth also came from the Sycamore when Max Cox (Fiery Holes) framed for the second Saturday on the trot, his 62-4-0 taking 4th.

On Sunday Mitch Davidson worked the close in line as well as fishing to the island, and barbel put in an appearance to accompany the carp, which went to 7lbs again. At the finish Mitch had a level 108-0-0 to finish a long way clear of Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) who was best man on the Sycamore with carp and bream for 64-12-0 at peg 20. Only 4 ounces behind second was Steve Hall (Oswestry) on 64-4-0 at Sycamore 33. Back on the Chestnut Kev Melville (Total Angling) claimed 4th, but only just, his 60-13-0 being hard pressed by an Oak best of 60-12-0 by Andy Williams.

In the Preston Innovations league for March at Boldings, Clive Wynn is top of the points table so far with 20 points. The double top from Mitch Davidson, moves him up to second, he now has 13, but with three more matches left in the month, there are still a possible 18 points up for grabs.

Last weeks winner Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was just under a pound behind on 37-1-0 at peg 1 and Ian Place (Ironbridge) had top weight on the Hawthorn, 24-6-0 to take 4th.

Beech peg 5 came up with the top catch on Wednesday when Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) had 59-8-0 on pellet and corn fished to the bottom of the shelf for carp to 6lbs.

Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) presented pellet at 8 metres at Ash peg 16 to pick off carp from 1lb to 4lbs to finish second on 52-8-0. Over on peg 9 Carl Foster (PI Boldings) netted 45-14-0 to collect third and at Beech 7 Keith Perrin (Tipton) was close behind on 44-3-0.

Weights continued to rise as the week progressed and Tony Foster (PI Bold) scored the first of two wins when he scaled 89-8-0 at peg 30 on the Sycamore to win on Thursday. Pellet at 12 metres and in the margins put carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs into Tony’s net.

Chris Hill (Maver) was on peg 30 on the Chestnut and had all his fish from the 11 metre line where carp to 5lbs and barbel to 2lbs gave figures of 66-7-0. In third at Chestnut 18 was Paul Evans (PI Bold) with a net weighing 52-7-0, and in a close 4th, on 52-3-0 was Andy Williams (Vespe) at Sycamore peg 1.

Saturday saw the first 100lb bag of the Spring and it was Tony Foster’s second winner which took the accolade. This time he was the Chestnut, at peg 18, and fished pellet at 6 metres as well as down the side. Carp to 6lbs, bream to 3lbs and barbel to 2lbs all featured in a 102-11-0 total.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  7-3-12.

The most consistent Monday winner of last year at Boldings Pools was Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) and it didn’t take him long to get going on the restarted Affordable series this year, winning last Monday by a thirty pound margin. He drew peg 5 on the Hawthorn Pool and fished pellet to the island to pick off carp to 6lbs to build a 79-1-0 top weight.

At peg 3 on the Middle Pool Eric Bancroft (Rod &Gun) took the best of three close weights which filled the rest of the frame. He offered maggot and pellet down the side and at 8 metres for 49-3-0 of carp to 5lbs. Carl Foster (PI Boldings) netted 48-8-0 at Hawthorn peg 11 for third and at Middle peg 8 Andy Williams (Vespe) had 47-13-0 in 4th place.

Clive Wynn (Tricast Weston) is on hot form at Boldings and followed up a double win last with a triple top this week, starting with victory on the Wednesday open, when he drew peg 23 on the Chestnut Pool and fished pellet and corn to the island for a total of 75-11-0 of carp in the 1lb to 7lb range.                                                                                                     At peg 32 on the same pool Tony Foster (PI Boldings) kept his run of results going with a runner up 64-0-0. He caught on pellet fished to each side of the peg, and netted carp to 6lbs and bream to 3lbs. Dave Cole (PI Bold) was best on the Sycamore to take third overall with 51-8-0 at peg 48 and at Sycamore 16 Keith Powell (PI Bold) had 44-5-0 in 4th.

The second of Clive’s three wins came on Thursday and for the second week running he recorded the top weight of the week. This time he drew peg 14 on the Ash and fished pellet close in and at 10 metres, to find carp to 5lbs. By the end of the match he had dropped 82-14-0 into his net to win by 20lbs.

Eric Bancroft collected his second runner up prize by taking top weight from the Beech Pool. He was on peg 16 and had carp to 7lbs on maggot close in and pellet at 6 metres to total 62-15-0. Steve Hall (Oswestry) was a close third at Ash 3 where he scaled 62-11-0 and Andy Williams had another 4th by weighing 57-4-0 at Ash 29.

Saturday saw Wynn top the list again when he drew close to the island on the Chestnut Pool again and employed the same tactics which were successful on Wednesday, pellet and corn to the side of the island, but also took a few fish from the nearside margins, with samples to 6lbs adding up to 62-1-0.

On the Larch Pool Scott Doodson (Preston Innov) landed 52-7-0 at peg 24 to fill second spot. Colin Reynolds was back in the frame with a Sycamore best of 51-6-0 from peg 44 and back on the Larch Jamie Langford (Maver) had 48-13-0 at peg 15 to fill 4th place.

John Wild (Stafford) won the final match of the week, which produced the closest finish, but he had to overcome a carp of 23-4-0 to do it. The big fish picked up Johns pellet bait at peg 5 on the Beech and when it was finally landed, it pushed his final weight to 80-5-0.

Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) would have been a fairly comfortable winner but for Wilds ‘lump’, as he netted 78-9-0 of carp to 5lbs and barbel to 2lbs using maggot at 14 metres at peg 30 on the Chestnut.

Clive Wynn completed a memorable week with a third place when he scaled 62-8-0 at Beech 7, which gave him a week-end total of ten Preston points.

Gareth Emlyn (oak Ang Cent) completed things with 60-4-0 for 4th at Chestnut 32.
