Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  28/6/11.

Sixth place on the Sunday open at Boldings was enough to confirm Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Angling  Centre) as the first winner of the Preston Innovations monthly Sunday league at the venue. The placing took him to 20 points while Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) who was sharing top place in the points with Kelvin going into the final match of the month, failed to add to his tally and was joined on 17 points by Gareth Emlyn. There was then more bad news for Shane as Gareth had a better weight aggregate to take second place and relegating Shane to third.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) enjoyed victories at the start and the finish of the week, beginning with top spot on the Monday open when he led the way from peg 35 on the Chestnut. Maggot and corn fished to each side of the peg found carp to 8lbs and barbel to 2lbs to give Eric 106-1-0.

Almost opposite the winner, at peg 4, Harry Colley (Preston Innovations Boldings) worked with pellet and meat to net a mix of carp and bream weighing 87-10-0 which gave him second. Two Weston Pools rods filled the remaining places with Josh Humphries taking third with his 64-12-0 at peg 21 and Dave Jones picking up 4th with a level 60-0-0 at peg 30.

Two anglers on opposite sides of the Ash Pool battled it out for first place on Wednesday, both fishing shallow pellet and both catching carp in the 1lb to 4lb bracket.

Eventual winner Carl Foster (PI Boldings) edged ahead by four or five towards the end, finishing the match on 131-12-0 at peg 5.

On peg 18 Andy Dyson (Cheshire) saw the scales settle at 119-11-0, leaving him in second. Just up from the winner Dave Matson (R&G) scaled 90-10-0 for third at peg 7 and Tony Foster (PI Boldings) collected 4th with a Hawthorn top score of 61-0-0.

Carl Baker (Stourbridge) pinched the top weight of the week from Carl Foster by 8 ounces when he took the honours on Thursday with 132-4-0. Peg 13 on the Chestnut was anything but unlucky for Carl, who battled with carp to 9lbs using paste at 6 metres and corn in the side, to record his victory.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) fished a straight lead and paste at Willows peg 13 and he also topped the ton with carp to 6lbs and barbel to 1lb for 101-8-0.

Back on the Chestnut Howard Williams (Wrexham) had 95-12-0 for third at peg 32 and Carl Foster was in the reckoning again taking 4th with 91-12-0 at peg 4.

Shane Rogers may have missed out on the Preston league but was compensated with a win on the Saturday open when his was the best of three ton up weights in the frame. Maggot fished to each side of the point at Sycamore 8 had carp and barbel dropping into the net at regular intervals to give a level 113-0-0.

Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) also offered maggot at peg 16 and landed bream and carp for 103-5-0, just pipping Tony Foster who made his second frame appearance of the week with 102-11-0 from peg 13. Carl Baker added a fourth to his first of the previous day, just missing out on a ton with 99-5-0 at peg 4.

Eric Bancroft was back in the driving seat on Sunday and back on the Chestnut Pool, this time on peg 23 where he fished close in to each side of the peg and to the island to pick off carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs on his way to 101-13-0.

At peg 21 David Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) used similar tactics for carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs, the slightly smaller stamp fish leaving him 4lbs short of top spot on 97-14-0.

Scott Doodson (Preston Innov) was over on peg 13 where 92-2-0 put him in third, just ahead of the second of the three members of the Emlyn family in the frame, Gareth, who recorded 91-14-0 at chestnut 34.

Kelvin Emlyn was top man on the Willows with 86-6-0 which gave him three points to add to the 17 he already had in the league table.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  21/6/11.

One more decent Sunday result at should establish Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) or Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) as the first winner of the Preston Innovations sponsored Sunday League at Boldings Pools, but if they both slip up another OAC rod, Gareth Emlyn is waiting in the wings to snatch the honour.

Kelvin finished second and Shane finished fourth on the latest Sunday open, to go equal top of the table with 17 points each, and Gareth, who is on 12 points is the only other angler in the running who can catch them.

Winner of the latest match was John Wild (Stafford) who recorded his first league points by taking top spot from Willows peg 7. Pellet and maggot at 4 metres put carp to 8lbs and barbel to 2lbs on the scales for a top score of 118-4-0.

Runner up Kelvin was pegged on the Ash at peg 18 and had a similar mix of fish to that of the winner for 104-11-0, which fell to maggot and paste at 4 metres.

Darren Reeves (Fish 2000) topped the Beech card from peg 26 where corn and pellet close in gave him 87-3-0 for third, and Shane Rogers was in close attendance, scaling 87-0-0 at Beech 23.

Keith Miller (New Willenhall) and Danny Boden (Oakengates Ang Cent) had a close battle for the winners purse on Monday at Boldings, with Keith coming out just on top by 10ounces. He weighed in 98-12-0 at Beech peg 5 with a catch of carp to 4lbs taken on close fished corn and pellet.

Danny pressed all the way to whistle to finish just short on 98-2-0.

Kieran Rich (Daiwa) booked his place in the Fish’O’ Mania final by beating a line up of 130 anglers on Wednesdays qualifier at Boldings. He drew peg 9 on the Ash and clattered  out 134-10-0 of smallish carp with a shallow pellet attack.

Luke Bamford (Middy) also had a corner peg on the Hawthorn, and while he had bigger fish than the winner, a slower catch rate left him some way short on 103-3-0.

Third man Ray Hitchens (Yorkshire Baits) was opposite the winner on Ash 14 which gave a return of exactly 100lbs. Best on the Larch and 4th overall was Mark Jones (Worms UK) on 92-3-0.

Thursdays open gave an all to top four with the Beech Pool producing the best weight for John Wild (Stafford). He was on peg 11and included bream to 2lbs along with carp to 8lbs in his 130-12-0 winning net. Pellet at 4 metres and close to the bank accounted for Johns fish.

Danny Boden had to settle for second again even though he upped his weight to 123-3-0. Drawn peg 5 on the Hawthorn, Danny offered paste at 5 metres and close in to each side of the peg to find carp to 7lbs.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) had a pool best of 115-12-0 from peg 13 on the Willows to fill third place and Jason Elwell (Pro Line Wednesbury) completed the heavyweight frame by scaling 110-6-0 at Beech 23.

Beech peg 11 came up with the goods again on Saturday, this time for Pete Plant (Maver) who employed his usual summer tactic of shallow caster fishing to pull 35lbs clear of the field, finishing the match on 104-15-0.

Brian Clarke (Marukyu) was best on the Willows when his maggot and corn at 4metres and in the edge put carp to 6lbs on the scales for 69-12-0.

A couple of pounds behind second was Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) with 67-11-0 at Beech 28, and Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) put up 59-2-0 in 4th.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  14/6/11.

There were plenty of big weights at Boldings again this week starting with a 116-2-0 winner on Monday. Jason Atwell (Kingswinford) baited with corn and pellet at peg 4 on the Chestnut to finish ahead a trio of weights from the Willows Pool. Jason had carp to 8lbs from the 4 metre line and from the margins to score his win.

Tony Foster Preston Innov Boldings) caught ghosties, up in the water on pellet for 1075-0 at Willows peg 16 to finish second, Colin Wozak (Donnington) had 91-0-0 for third at Willows 9 and Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) took 4th with 76-2-0 at Willows 11.

Top catch of the week came on Wednesday and fell to Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) at Ash peg 5. He had a busy day hammering out carp in the 1lb to 3lb class on shallow pellet to finish not far short of 150lbs on 149-3-0.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) fished pellet to the island and in the channel at peg 5 on the Hawthorn to scale 95-12-0 in second. Tony Foster was in the mix again, his 90-2-0 at Hawthorn 7 giving him third, with Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) 4th on 75-1-0 at Ash 7.

Chestnut peg 4 was a winner again on Thursday when Carl Baker (Stourbridge) netted a level 95-0-0 from it. Carp and barbel responded to Carls corn and pellet baits, fished to each side of the peg.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) was on Sycamore 24 and had carp and bream on pellet for 88-0-0, Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) claimed third with 82-13-0 from Chestnut 36 and Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) had 79-1-0 in 4th at Sycamore 8.

It was the Larch Pool which came up with the winner on Saturday in the form of Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver Sonubaits) who alternated shallow pellet with close in tactics to net 90-1-0.

Andy Dyson (Ind) was on the next peg but couldn’t keep up with the winner, finishing on 74-13-0 in second. Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) had a Chestnut best of 65-5-0 at peg 35 to finish third, and another Chestnut catch of 59-10-0 at peg 13 put Jason Atwell in the frame again.

Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) took maximum points in the Preston Innovations match on Sunday after he drew the peg which his son Gareth had the previous day, Chestnut 35. Maggot, fished to each side of the peg accounted for carp to 9lbs and barbel to 2lbs for a total of 102-14-0.

At Sycamore peg 4 John Francis (R&G) fished pellet at 5 metres and into the corner for carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs, but finished a fish short of the winner on 99-14-0.

Ant Shipton (Ind) was a close third on 97-8-0 at Sycamore 49 and close behind him was Shane Rogers (Oak Ang Cent) on 95-7-0 at Chestnut 28.
