BOLDINGS REPORT  26/4/11.

There were plenty of big weights again at Boldings Pools, with Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) taking top catch of the week to win for the second Wednesday running. Shallow pellet tactics at Hawthorn peg 7 accounted for a haul of carp to 7lbs for 157-4-0.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) worked shallow pellet and close in tactics at peg 6 on the Ash to net 113-0-0 of carp to 8lbs to fill second spot, then back on the Hawthorn Carl Foster (OB Wolves) also topped the ton with his third placed 102-9-0 at peg , with Keith Miller (New Willenhall) 4th on 90-12-0 at Hawthorn 5.

Clive Wynn (Tricast Weston) made the trip down from Oswestry pay off on Thursday and had a busy time with carp in the 1lb to 3lb bracket at peg 16 on the Oak. Shallow pellet got the fish feeding again, and Clive whipped out 130-5-0.

Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) was second for the second Thursday on the trot with another Oak haul. He was on peg 8 and offered pellet to each side for 116-5-0, made up with carp to 8lbs.

Ralph Johnson (Bilston Ang Cent) had the first of a hat trick of wins when he collected the main prize on Friday thanks to 94-4-0 from Chestnut peg 4. Breaking the shallow pellet trend, Ralph combined pellet and maggot to fish close in to pick off carp to 8lbs and barbel to 1lb.

Ed Turner (OBW) combined corn and pellet at Chestnut 7 and had a mix of carp to 6lbs and skimmers to 1lb in his runner up 85-6-0. Third went to Steve Hall (Oswestry) who scaled 68-9-0 at peg 38 and Carl Foster made the list again with 65-3-0 at 23.

On Saturday Ralph added 40lbs to his Friday weight to win from peg 18 on the Larch. Pellet and maggot to each side worked again for carp to 8lbs to put 134-10-0 on the scales.

Pete Plant (Maver) worked his shallow caster method at Larch 24 where his 94-6-0 consisted of carp to 3lbs, Jason Elwell (Pro Line Wednesbury) was best on the Willow and third in the match with 69-5-0, and back on the Larch Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) had 64-1-0 in 4th.

Another ton on Sunday gave Johnson his hat trick. This time he was on the Chestnut Pool and varied his tactics, offering his maggot and pellet at 5 metres as well as close in at peg 30. Carp to 9lbs homed in to give final figures of 116-13-0.

Round at peg 26 Eric Bancroft (R&G) used corn, pellet and maggot to fish to the island and down the side to net a mixture of carp to 7lbs and bream to 3lbs to total 104—9-0.

The Willows provided third again, this time for Simon Christian (Maver) who had 95-12-0 from peg 16 for the place and a Sycamore best of 94-0-0 gave Ted Ecclestone (Stafford) 4th.

The Bank Holiday match on Monday gave an all ton frame with Andy Williams (Vespe) leading the way with 135-1-0 from Beech 18. Corn, fished to each side of the peg put carp to 8lbs and bream to 2lbs in the net.

Pete Plant had another second with another shallow caster based catch, this time from Beech 26 where carp to 7lbs and chub to 2lbs added up to 131-2-0.

Ralph Johnson was there again, taking an Oak best of 106-4-0 for third and an Ash best of 101-7-0 put Mick Williams (Telford) into 4th.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  19/4/11.

Stu Ballard (Maver Dynamite Baits) booked his place in the £50,000 Maver Match This final when he won a closely fought qualifier at Boldings Pools.

Drawn at the back of the island on peg 23 on the Chestnut, Stu had mainly small carp around the 1lb mark on shallow pellet, fished to the island, but boosted his weight with a few carp to 8lbs, taken on paste, fished down the side. At he finish, he had 113-6-0 to hand over to the scales.

With only the winner going through to the big money final, Steve Openshaw (Fishermans Tavern) was left to regret the loss of a number of decent carp, any one of which could have put him through. Steve was on peg 28 on the Sycamore, and used pellet to fish shallow towards the island, and in the margins. Carp to 7lbs brought him agonizingly close when the scales stopped at 111-2-0.

Steve Mayo (Maver) finished in third with a Willows top score of 89-4-0 and a Sycamore best of 82-0-0 gave Pete Goodwin (Bucknall Bikes) 4th.

Harry Colley (OB Wolves) set a hot pace on the Monday open, a match in which it took over 120lbs to make the top four.

Harry was on Ash peg 5 and hammered out 151-11-0 using pellet and meat to fish down the side.

Danny Boden ((Oakengates Ang Cent) was on peg 15 on the Hawthorn where pellet at 6 metres and close in saw him net 137-10-0 for second, with Richard Duke (Bridgnorth AS) in close touch on 130-10-0 at Hawthorn 13.

Back on the Ash Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) netted 121-1-0 at peg 20 to finish in 4th.

On Wednesday the Willows and Beech pools were used, with the Willows giving the top two weights. Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) scraped home with a 9 ounce advantage over the Match This winner Stu Ballard.

Ian opted for shallow caster at peg 4 and found 94-13-0 of ghosties to 4lbs, while Stu alternated pellet and corn at 7 metres and close at peg 9 to net carp to 5lbs for his 94-4-0.

Best on the Beech was Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) who came in third with 87-4-0 at peg 16, and was followed by Gary Morris (OBW) on 83-15-0 at peg 7.

Eric Bancroft (R&G) found his winning touch again on Thursday when carp to 10lbs were attracted to his pellet and corn, fished in the side and at 5 metres at Sycamore peg 21, and gave a return of 87-6-0/

Dave Matson moved from 4th on Monday to claim second here with a Chestnut top weight of 82-15-0.

Brian Clarke (Marukyu) was a close third on 79-12-0 at Sycamore 24 and |Richard Duke was in the frame again, his 77-6-0 form Sycamore 13 giving him 4th.

Last Sundays big winner Jason Elwell (Pro Line Wednesbury) filled first place on Saturday this week, taking the honours from peg 10 on the Middle Pool. Working pellet and paste at 6 metres and corn in the side, Jason picked off carp to 7lbs on his way to 104-12-0.

John Wild (Stafford) moved up a place on last week to fill the runner up spot. Pellet and corn down the side and into the corner put carp to 5 lbs in the net for 93-15-0 at Middle peg 5. Third went to 88-7-0 by Tony Foster (OBW) at Middle peg 11 and a Deepdale best of 80-3-0 gave John Francis (R&G) fourth.

Top weight of the week this week went to Mark Mountford (OAC) when he scaled 152-6-0 at Chestnut 38 on Sunday. Carp, bream and barbel all featured in Mark’s catch, with carp to 12lbs, bream to 3lbs and barbel to 1lb all accepting corn and pellet, fished to each side of the peg.

Runner up Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver) topped the Sycamore card with a 142-1-0 haul of carp to 9lbs, taken on pellet and paste at peg 4. Third also came from the Sycamore when Steve Davies (OAC) scaled 119-9-0 at peg 13, and back on the Chestnut Andy Williams (Vespe) had 117-10-0 at peg 32 for 4th.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  12/4/11.

Average weights continue to climb at Boldings Pools, with the climax coming on the Sunday open when the top eight anglers all beat the 100lbs mark.

The Monday match saw Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) and Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) occupy the same positions they held on Thursday last week, with Colin taking top spot and Eric second. It was corn in the side whish put Colin at the top of the Oak Pool list, with carp to 7lbs adding up to 86-15-0 at peg 18.

Eric fished maggot in the side and pellet at 6 metres to net carp to 5lbs at peg 22, to scale 60-11-0. Richard Duke (R&G) had 55-13-0 for third at the end of the dam wall, leaving Harry Colley (OB Wolves) on 51-5-0 to pick up 4th.

Tony Foster (OBW) scored the first of two ton up wins when he collected the coin on Wednesday. Shallow fished pellet at Ash peg 3 had carp to 5lbs coming to the net from the 12 metre line to give a return of 105-12-0.

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) was on the opposite side of the Ash, on peg 18, where pellet fished long and shallow, as well as close in, put 86-7-0 on the scales for second.

Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) led the catches on the Beech, finishing third overall with 62-2-0 at peg 5, and 59-7-0 from Beech 16 put Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) into 4th.

On Thursday Richard Duke improved on his third place on Monday, taking the top honours in style with the only frame weight to come from the Chestnut. Richard alternated fishing shallow in open water with fishing into the corner at peg 13, offering maggot to both swims. Carp to 8lbs obliged, and at the whistle there was a weight of 138-14-0 in the net.

Mondays winner Colin Reynolds picked up second this time, with a corn and pellet based 95-4-0, which came from Sycamore peg 8. At corner peg 30 on the Sycamore, John Wild (Stafford) netted 86-12-0 for third and at Sycamore 21 Ed Turner (OBW) weighed 81-5-0 in 4th.

There was a big turn out on Saturday for the Scott Doodson 30th Birthday bash, with anglers from far and wide helping Scott to celebrate reaching middle age !!.

The match produced a tight finish, with only 6 ounces separating first and second places and less than 2lbs between the top three, who all topped 100lbs.

Tony Foster (OBW) took the main prize of a long list by recording 110-0-0 at Beech peg 32, with all his fish, carp to 7lbs, coming to pellet and corn, fished in the margins.

Dave Craggs (Maver) was on corner peg 50 on the Sycamore and had carp to 9lbs with bream to 3lbs on maggot, fished into the corner, for a weight of 109-10-0.

John Wild collected another third when he put 108-2-0 in the weigh tub at Beech peg 5, and a Willows best of 99-14-0 gave Chris Hill (Maver) 4th.

After the weigh in, Scott joined the Mermaid Club, as part of the celebrations involved him being chucked into the water. Happy Birthday and congratulations Scott.
