Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  21/2/11.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) set the standard at Boldings this week when he won the Monday open on the Larch Pool with the top score of the week, 104-12-0. Drawn on peg 14, Eric fished maggot in the side to attract carp to 8lbs, for an emphatic win.

At the next peg to the right of Bancroft, number 15, Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) found the pace set by the winner was too hot and he finished well behind on 63-9-0. Steve offered pellet at 7 metres and 14 metres to catch carp mostly in the 1lb to 3lbs, with the odd better fish.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was a further 20lbs adrift on 43-`10-0 at peg 5, and on the winners left, at peg 16, Harry Colley (OB Wolves) had 40-5-0 in 4th.

Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) moved up a place on his second on Wednesday last week to win this Wednesday after he drew peg 9 on the Ash. Maggot down the side got the carp moving, and Phil included an F! of 5lbs 10ozs in a winning total of 82-9-0.

Gary Morris (OBW) moved up from third last Thursday to second on this match with a Beech Pool best of 49-7-0 from peg 11. Gary caught on pellet at 10 metres, with carp up to 6lbs making up his catch.

Back on the Ash Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) netted 46-10-0 at peg 7 to take third, and at Beech 16, a level 44-0-0 gave Tony Foster (OBW) 4th.

Ken Humphries (ABC) scored his second Thursday win on the trot to prevent Eric Bancroft notching up second win of the week. Ken had a haul of carp in the 1lb to 3lbs bracket for 60-5-0 at Chestnut 21, taking fish from each side of the peg, as well as from the island, on maggot.

Eric was on peg 6 on the Sycamore and presented maggot and pellet at 7 metres as well as in the side, to net fish to 6lbs on his way to 58-13-0.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) was only a few ounces behind Bancroft on 58-6-0 at Sycamore peg 8, and 10lbs behind him was Danny Boden (Oakengates Ang Cent) on 48-6-0 at Chestnut 27.

Alan Naylor (Oakengates Ang Cent) stepped up to the Mark on Saturday, claiming the main prize with 62-14-0, which headed a string of weights from the Ash. Alan baited with pellet and maggot at peg 14 to encourage carp to 6lbs to feed.

At peg 16 John Wild (Stafford) alternated between close in and at 6 metres with pellet to put 55-12-0 of carp to 3lbs on the scales for second. John Francis (R & G) put his name on third prize with 52-11-0 from Ash 9 and a level 39lbs gave Mick Jameson another frame place.

Top weight on the Chestnut was 27-12-0 by Dave Craggs (OBW).

On Sunday it was the turn of Ken Humphries to be stopped from scoring a double when John Francis jumped from third the previous day to top spot, edging Ken out by 2 ounces.

Both drew number 16, John on the Larch and Ken on the Sycamore, and both caught fish in the 1lb to 3lb range. John had his fish on maggot and pellet at 10 metres and into the corner to scale 74-8-0, while Ken fished to each side of the point for his 74-6-0.

Kevin Melville (Total Angling) kept his form going with third place and a Chestnut best of 62-4-0, and a |Willows best of 56-6-0 gave Dave Matson (R & G) 4th.

Jamie Potts (Wolverhampton) topped a tight frame in the sunshine on Saturday, which saw an average of 55lbs for the top four.

Jamie headed the list when his net of carp between 1lb and 4lbs, taken on pellet and corn at 6 metres and close in, came to 57-7-0 at point peg 16 on the Larch.

At the next peg Tony Foster (OBW) pushed Potts all t to the whistle with carp to 6lbs on pellet at 6 metres and 14 metres, with some of the catch caught shallow and some on the deck. The scales stopped just short of the winner on 57-2-0.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  2/2/11.

Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) opened the week at Boldings by winning the Wednesday open from Middle Pool peg 8 with double the runner up weight. Ian had carp to 4lbs on maggot at 8 metres for 43-10-0.

Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) was directly opposite the winner and he too caught on maggot, fished into the corner and at 8 metres, to weigh 20-5-0.

Third placed Pete Moss (Rod \& Gun) had 19-12-0 at Middle peg 10, and best on the Hawthorn was fourth man Perry Dalgarno (MTA) on 17-0-0,

Thursday gave a much closer finish when the Sycamore Pool was used and John Wild (Stafford) won from corner peg 4. carp to 5lbs together with skimmers came to pellet and maggot, fished into the corner and at 12 metres to give a return of 41-9-0.

Just round the corner from John, Steve Roberts (Oakengates Ang Cent) offered maggot at 14 metres to net carp and skimmers for 38-7-0 and second place, ahead of another Oakengates rod, Shane Rogers. He was on peg 50 and scaled 36-6-0 with Dave Barnard (R &G) picking up 4th with 29-11-0 at peg 6.

Winds gusting up to 70mph were a feature of the week-end, even on the more sheltered back pools, making presentation very difficult.

On Saturday Pete Plant (Maver) fished into the corner with maggot at Middle Pool peg 5 to find carp to 6lbs on his way to 67-9-0, which put him some way clear of Gary Morris (OB Wolves) who had top weight on the Deepdale, 48-0-0. Gary was able to go out to 12 metres with pellet and maggot, as well as fishing close in.

Tony \Foster (OBW) picked up 3rd thanks to 40-14-0 at Deepdale 4, with brother Carl on 28-0-0 at peg 12 getting 4th.

On Sunday Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) opted to fish the ‘tip at Willows peg 17, with maggot on the hook, a move which paid off with a 73-3-0 winner. Carp to 5lbs and ghosties to 4lbs made up the winning net.

Dave Hailey (OBW) was on the exposed point of the Sycamore Pool but managed 59-7-0, with carp to 7lbs on pellet and maggot in the side and at 8 metres.

Back on the Willows last Mondays winner Eric |Bancroft (R & G) netted 52-2-0 for third at peg 13 and Steve Roberts was in the frame again, scaling 48-2-0 for 4th at Sycamore 46.
