Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  14/12/10.

They were able to stage a couple of matches at Boldings at the week-end, even though there were five inches of ice to contend with in places.

With the paddles working flat out, fishing close to the edge of any ice cover gave the best chance of any fish, and that’s what Dave Barnard did at peg 7 on the Ash Pool on Saturday, to find a few carp to 3lbs with maggot on the hook for a winning weight of 17-1-0.

It was a close run thing when Keith Powell (OB Wolves) tipped his mix of carp and chub to 2lbs on the scales at peg 14, where Keith saw the scales settle agonizingly short at 17-0-0. Scott Doodson (Maver Sonubaits) collected third thanks to 12-14-0 from Ash 6, and Rino Stanko (Oakengates Ang Cent) had 11-9-0 in 4th at Ash 9.

Best on the Oak was Tim Probert (OBW) on 6-14-0 at peg 4 and Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) was top on the Beech with 6-2-0 from peg 33.

Temperatures had dropped again on Sunday and maggot proved the best bet again, with the Chestnut Pool giving the winner this time.

Paul Gadd (Shrewsbury) was the man to pick up the winners purse with a mix of carp and skimmers from peg 32. Paul presented his maggot baited hook at 3 metres and at 5 metres to tempt a total of 12-7-0 for victory.

Ash peg 7 featured again, giving second place to John Wild (Stafford) who included carp to 2lbs with roach to half a pound in his maggot fed 12-12-0.

Third placed Brian Clarke (Maver) had the top catch from the Stock Pool, 8-5-0 from peg 7, with Jerry Powell (Thomas Telford) picking up 4th with his 5-3-0 from Ash 13.

Best on the Hawthorn was Arthur \Wood (Oswestry) on 3-11-0 and Steve Owen had another pool best with 3-2-0 from the Beech.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  30/11/10.

They did manage to complete a full programme of opens at Boldings, using selected areas near to the paddles on Sunday, but with temperatures down to minus 5c on Saturday and minus 10c on Sunday, weights were also correspondingly down on mid-week levels.

Andy Williams (Vespe) got things rolling with the best catch of the week at the complex to win the Monday open. He was on Stock Pool peg 7 where pellet and maggot aroused the interest of carp to 4lbs, which saw Andy pull a long way clear of the field, finishing the day on 86-14-0.

Scott Jones (Myucya) collected second with a maggot based 48-10-0 at Stock peg 4, finishing one fish ahead of Danny Boden (Oakengates Ang Cent) who scaled 45-9-0 at Stock 11 to take third. Fourth went to a Hawthorn Pool best of 44-7-0 from Dave Craggs (Maver).

Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) edged ahead of a scramble for the remaining places on Wednesday when he employed pellet feeder tactics at peg 5 on the Ash Pool to net 44-3-0 of carp to 4lbs.

Runner up Rick Tymuscuk (Mid Leisure) could have done with one more fish at Beech peg 7, as his catch of carp to 6lbs on pellet and maggot came to 40-14-0.

Back on the Ash, Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) was only a whisker behind second with his 40-12-0 at peg 14, and only a whisker behind him was Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) 0n 40-10-0.

There was another close finish on Thursday when Ken Humphries (ABC) just got the better of Brian Clarke (Maver).

They were almost opposite each other on the Middle Pool, with Ken on peg 9 and Brian on 3. Both caught on pellet and maggot and each had carp to 4lbs, Ken recording 37-13-0 and Brian seeing the scales settle at 37-6-0.

Kevin Melville (Maver Total Angling) had a Hawthorn best of 28-10-0 for third and Tony Foster (OB Wolves) completed the frame with 25-14-0 at Middle peg 1.

The paddles were working hard on Saturday as the thermometer dropped, and kept most pools free of ice, but the water was very cold. Even so, the catch rates held up well and gave a fairly even frame. Dave Brown (Maver)led the way with a level 48-0-0 from Deepdale peg 14. Fishing maggot to the paddles, Dave picked up carp to 4lbs on his way to victory.

Ash peg 5 featured again, coming up with 46-14-0 for Simon Jukes (OBW) who caught carp to 5lbs on pellet and maggot, fished at 10 metres and close in.

Last weeks top scorer Matt Stobbs (OAC) finished third with a Middle Pool best of 46-4-0 from peg 3 and Ash peg 7 gave a return of 41-9-0 for 4th to Ian Hodson (Kings).

Sundays line up was boosted by anglers from the cancelled Winter League and was hard going for some of the 49 strong field, as the water froze in front of them.

Ian Ward (Total Angling) picked up the main prize for his 27-2-0, which came from Willows peg 5 and consisted of carp to 3lbs, taken on maggot at 14 metres.

Runner up Jamie Langford (OBW) fished maggot and pellet, alternated between the 5metre and 12 metre lines for 20-2-0 at Beech peg 11.

Over at Beech peg 29 Steve Roberts (OAC) had 19-10-0 for third and Matt Price (Maver) was top rod on the Ash with 19-5-0 for 4th.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  22/11/10.

Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was back to winning ways at the Monday Affordable open on the Ash Pool at Boldings Pools. Carp in the 1lb to 4lbs bracket, caught on pellet at 7 metres gave Colin a return of 54-1-0.

Godfrey Wood (Total Angling) had fish of a similar stamp on pellet at 5 metres for 50-10-0 and second place at peg 9.

Over on the other bank Paul Postin (Sedgeley) scaled 36-7-0 for third at peg 18 and on the same bank Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) had 35-15-0 at peg 14 for 4th.

Carl Foster (OB Wolves) was another rod back at the top of the frame after a short lean spell when he headed the list on the Wednesday open. He alternated between the 5 metre and 10 metre lines at Hawthorn peg 3 to pick off carp to 6lbs while putting together a weight of 74-4-0.

Gary Morris (OBW) was top rod on the Middle Pool and second overall with a pellet based 49-13-0, taken on pellet at 8 metres from peg 8. Back on the Hawthorn Liam Reynolds (Total Angling) came up with 32-14-0 at peg 1 to fill third spot and the winners brother Tony Foster (OBW) had 28-7-0 at Hawthorn 5 to finish in 4th.

On Thursday Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) headed a tight fame from peg 23 on the Beech Pool, with the rest of the weights coming from the Chestnut.

Eric fished at 5 and 10 metres with pellet and found carp to 8lbs on his way to 50-9-0, which was enough to push the Chestnut best of 48-4-0 from Jeff Harston (Weston Pools) down to second. Jeff used pellet, maggot and corn to tempt his fish, carp to 6lbs, at peg 30.

Carl Foster picked up third this time, and was just three ounces behind second on 48-1-0 at peg 28. Kevin Melville (Total Angling) kept his run going with a 4th best 45-1-0 from peg 17.

Maver Midlands and Oakengates Angling Centre rods featured well at the week-end as they practiced for the Shropshire Winter League match which will be held at Boldings this Sunday.

Maver drew first blood when Stu Ballard took the honours on Saturday when only four and a half pounds separated first and fourth. Stu switched between fishing on the deck with pellet and up in the water with maggot to edge ahead of Oakengates rod Kelvin Emlyn, ending the day on 65-14-0 at Ash peg 14, while Kelvin scaled 64-3-0 at Beech peg 7.

Shane Rogers (Oakengates Ang Cent) finished in third wit a Middle Pool best of 62-14-0 from peg 3 and Martin Harrell (Maver) completed the top four with 61-5-0 from Ash 9.

Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) saved the best for last and posted the first 100lb weight recorded since the winter took hold.

Matt made peg 23 on the Beech into a winner for the second time of the week by fishing pellet and maggot down the ledge to each side of the peg and built an impressive winter weight of 107-9-0, with carp to 8lbs.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) added to his two firsts and a third last week by finishing second on this match with a Chestnut best of 76-8-0. He was on peg 38 and found carp to 6lbs and bream to 3lbs, fishing pellet, close in and at 5 metres.

Brian Clarke (Maver) was a close third at Beech peg 16 where he netted a level 75-0-0, and fourth went to Rino Stanko (Oak Ang Cent) on 66-8-0 at Beech 11.
