Boldings report

Boldings Report 25/11/08.

Top weight at Boldings this week went to Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Angling Centre) on Sunday, when he took the only frame catch from the Ash Pool. Drawn on peg 9 Gareth fished in the side with maggot to net carp in 1lb to 5lb bracket for a total of 68-13-0, which put him well ahead of a trio of catches from the Hawthorn Pool which filled the remaining places. Best of these was Dave Craggs (OB Wolves) who fished at 6 metres and close in with maggot at peg 7 for 41-15-0. Close behind was Eric Bancroft (R &G) on 40-12-0 at peg 1 and in 4th was Carl Stringer (Oakengates Ang Cent) whose 37-6-0 came from peg 3.

In the week Phil Foster (OBW) won the Wednesday open from the Acorn Pool, and was a comfortable winner with 47-11-0, taken on corn and pellet, fished in the edge at peg 10. Runner up Dave Barnard (R&G) was also on the Acorn, at the opposite end from the winner on peg 1 where pellet accounted for 29-8-0.

Third man Dave Brown (Maver) led the way on the Middle Pool with 23-0-0 at peg 11 and Pete Plant (Maver) had a Deepdale best of 19-8-0 for 4th.

The Hawthorn gave a tight frame on Thursday when 4lbs covered the top 4. Stuart Aston (Swan Jacks) edged it by just over a pound from Eric Bancroft. Both caught carp to 5lbs on Pellet, with Stuart having his 35-3-0 at 8 metres from peg 5, while Eric fished to the island and at 8 metres at peg 9 for his 34-0-0.

Dave Brown finished third again , scaling 33-12-0 at peg 7, with Graham Evason (OBW) finishing things off with 31-2-0 at peg 3.

On Saturday four different pools gave the top four weights, when Matt Stobbs (R&G) led the way from peg 6 on the Middle Pool. Pellet and maggot, fished to each side of the peg brought carp to 5 lbs to the net to give Matt a 53-13-0 total.

Scott Doodson (R&G) fished pellet at 7 metres at peg 3 on the Hawthorn for 48-7-0 which also featured carp to 5lbs. Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) took his third placed 30-6-0 from peg 3 on the Ash and Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) had a Deepdale best of 28-8-0 in 4th.

Boldings report

Boldings Report 19/11/08.

With match weights settling down to winter level it was the Wednesday open which gave the top catch of the week again at Boldings Pools, where the Ash Pool provided Gary Morris (OB Wolves) with another win to back up his success of Saturday, last week.

Gary drew peg 9 in the corner, and fished pellet at 8 metres for a regular supply of carp in the 1lb to 3lb bracket to gradually pull away from the field, ending the day on 59-8-0.

Carl Foster (OB Wolves) finished in second for the second Wednesday running when he scaled 53-1-0. He was pegged on the opposite side of the Ash, on peg 18, where like the winner, he offered pellet, but alternated between the 10 metre and 6 metre lines, for carp to 3lbs.

Last Wednesdays winner Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall was third, close behind Foster on 52-12-0, which was a Hawthorn Pool best, and came from peg 1. Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was back in the frame after a week out last week, taking 4th from Ash peg 5 with 36-13-0.

Having finished second on Sunday last week, Jamie Langford (OBW) alternated maggot at 12 with pellet in the margins at peg 36 on the Chestnut for a narrow victory on Saturday this week, when carp to 6 lbs added up to 37-10-0. Over on the Larch Pool Kevin Melville (Dorset) was left needing one more fish when carp to 5 lbs responded to his maggot bait, fished at 9 metres and into the side at peg 8, which gave a return of 35-8-0.

Opposite the winner, on Chestnut peg 4, Dave Yates (OBW) scaled 33-9-0 for third and Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had 30-0-0 from opposite the island at Chestnut 26 for 4th.

Chestnut pegs filled the frame on Sunday when Eric Bancroft (R&G) kept the fish close in at peg 35 with maggot feed, and put eight and a half pounds between himself and runner up Darren Turner (Parks Tackle). Before the finishing whistle, Eric had slipped the net under 52-8-0 of carp to 6 lbs.

Round at peg 28 Darren fished to the island with maggot for carp to 4lbs which gave him a level 44-0-0 at the finish. Gareth Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) was on point peg 32 and put 39-12-0 on the scales to hold off Graham Evason (OBW) who had a level 39-0-0 at peg 3.

Boldings report

ABoldings Report 12/11/08.

Peg 15 on the Hawthorn Pool threw up another winner this week when it gave Pete Ricketts (New Willenhall) top weight of the week on the Wednesday open. Preferring pellet to maggot, Pete fished shallow to tempt carp to 6 lbs to drop 64-10-0 onto the scales for victory.

Up by the island on the same pool Carl Foster (OB Wolves) also fished pellet, presenting it close to the island for a lot of fish in the 1lb to 3lb range totaling 59-11-0.At Stock Pool peg 10 Pete Tolley (OB Wolves) scaled 46-1-0 for third and a Middle Pool best of 39-0-0 gave Alan Weston (Chuckey) 4th.

Ted Ecclestone (Stafford) offered corn at 10 metres and close in at Beech peg 5 on Thursday to grab a win with a level 41-0-0. Pete Tolley had another pool best and moved up a place from the previous day. He fished corn at 8 metres at peg 8 on the Chestnut for carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs, which came to 34-13-0 at the whistle.

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) had the first of two placings with 32-5-0 for third at Beech 8 and Dave Barnard (Rod & Gun) rounded things off with 29-10-0 for 4th at Chestnut 32.

Gary Morris (OBW) just got the verdict on Saturday when a pellet and corn combination, fished at 8 metres at peg 11 on the Deepdale gave him a return of 44-3-0, with carp from 1lb to 4lb making up the catch. Mick Jameson was pipped to top spot by 7 ounces on the Wednesday match last week, on this one he was just three ounces down when he topped the hawthorn card with 44-0-0, after fishing peg 13 with pellet at 9 metres. Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver) was best on the Middle Pool, and third overall with 37-2-0 at peg 8 and Graham Roberts (OBW) was a pound behind on 37-1-0 at peg 6.

Dave Hailey (OBW) claimed the cash on Sunday with a catch of ghosties up to 3lbs which weighed 58-2-0. Dave was on peg 19 on the Willows Pool, and caught on pellet at 7 metres.

Jamie Langford (OBW) alternated pellet at 9 metres and maggot close in at peg 36 on the Chestnut to record 50-1-0 for second, then it was back to the Willows for third man John Francis (R&G) who took his 46-3-0 from peg 15. Also on the Willows was 4th placed Steve Hall (Oswestry) on 44-8-0, and best on the Hawthorn was Dave Craggs (OBW) with 42-2-0.

Boldings report

Boldings Report 5/11/08.

Dave Brown (Maver Midlands) and Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) both picked up a first and a second at Boldings Pools this week, and there was another win for Pete Plant (Maver).

Pete stopped Mick Jameson from scoring a double win when he edged him out by 7 ounces on the Wednesday match. Pete drew peg 15 on the Hawthorn and offered maggot at 7 metres and close in to find carp to 6lbs and roach  to 1lb, which added up to 54-3-0.

Mick was on peg 5 on the Middle Pool, and he also worked with maggot, fished at 5 metres and into the corner. His net of 53-12-0 consisted of all carp, to 4lbs.

Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Maver) was diagonally opposite Jameson, on peg 11 where 43-9-0 gave him third, and a Beech best of 33-1-0 put Gary Morris (OB Wolves) into 4th.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) fished 12 metres out from the point on peg 7 on the Beech Pool on Wednesday to ease ahead of the field. Carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs accepted his pellet bait to give figures of 46-11-0 when the scales came round.

Over on the Oak Pool Alan Weston (Chuckery) fished corn at 10 metres to find carp to 9lbs, but not enough of them to trouble Bancroft, as he finished on 34-12-0. Back on the Beech Richard Lawson (Maver) had 31-13-0 opposite the point to claim third, ahead of Paul Evans (Willis Worms) who had 28-4-0 at Beech 11.

Mick Jameson took his win on Saturday with the top catch of the week, which came from peg 28 on the Chestnut Pool. Mick put together 82-3-0 of carp to 6lbs by fishing pellet in mid channel.

Dave Brown finished in second, but his 54-12-0 was never a threat. Dave was on peg 33 on the Sycamore and carp to 7lbs on maggot at 8metres and on the bottom of the shelf. An even 40-0-0 at Chestnut peg 4 put Graham Evason (OB W) into 3rd and Alf Taylor (OBW) followed him with 32-12-0 at Chestnut 32.

Hawthorn pegs filled the top four places on Sunday when Dave Brown claimed top spot. Maggot, fished at 10 metres tempted carp to 6lbs to see Dave ease clear of the rest, ending the day on 55-8-0. Over on peg 5 Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) presented corn and maggot to the island to net 38-1-0 for second, Jamie Langford (OBW) was one decent fish behind on 33-9-0 at Hawthorn 3 and John Francis (R&G) completed the week with 30-14-0 at hawthorn 11.
