FAIR CATCHES IN FOUL WEATHER AT BOLDINGS.

Gales and driving rain failed to stop the fish feeding at Boldings Pools this week, but the weather did dictate them taking to the more sheltered back pools on a wind lashed Thursday open.

Steve Roberts (Rod & Gun) presented caster, down the shelf at peg 4 on the Deepdale Pool, to pick off carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs, to stay ahead of Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling). He was on the Middle Pool, at peg 5, and offered maggot at 5 metres for carp to 6lbs, but the weigh in left 8lbs short, as Steve totalled 58-3-0 to Colin’s 50-4-0.

On the opposite side of the Deepdale from the winner, Ken Humphries (Morgans Angling) was a close third with 48-2-0 from peg 13 and on the same bank Kevin Dudley (OB Wolves) finished 4th on 43-1-0.

Wind speeds may have eased for the week-end, but they were also a good deal cooler than mid-week, leaving Andy Bayliss-Kyte (Rod & Gun) as the only one to top 50lbs on the Saturday open. He was on the point on the Chestnut Pool, where alternating between close in and out at 8 metres with corn and maggot, helped to pull clear of the field, with carp to 6lbs adding up to a level 50lbs.

Over on the Larch Pool Andy Williams (Dorset AC) worked with maggot close in at peg 5, and found carp to 5lbs for a runner up 32-10-0. That was followed by another pool best, when Godfrey Wood (Phoenix Tackle) handed 25-5-0 to the scales at peg 3, then it was back to the Chestnut for 4th, with Steve Laurence (OB Wolves) netting 22-7-0 at peg 21.

Weights went up with the wind temperature on Sunday, when the Beech Pool filed the top three places, and Ken Humphries (Morgans Angling) became the only rod to make the frame more than once. He drew peg 5, in the middle of the far bank and caught on corn and pellet, fished close in to each side of the peg, building a 61-8-0 winning net, with carp in the 1lb to 6lb range.

Up in the corner, on the same bank, John Wild (Team Cudmore) stayed in close touch, using maggot in the margins for 59-13-0 of carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs. In between the top two, at peg 7, Dave White (Maver Tipton) netted an even 50lbs for third. Just behind him, with a Beech Pool best of 48-6-0 was Nige Clarke (RAF Trabuco).
