Boldings report

Boldings report    23-12-15.

The Monday open at Boldings Pools delivered a scramble for first place between three anglers on the Oak Pool, with Graham Roberts scraping home by a margin of just 10 ounces. Drawn on corner peg 31, Graham caught carp to 4lbs, but had the worry of seeing Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes] landing fish of a little better stamp, just to his right on peg 29.Roberts stuck to feeding and presenting maggot, at 7 metres distance, alternated with forays into the corner. When the scales arrived at the end of the match, he was credited with 39-7-0.

Along at peg 29 Tromans found himself needing another fish when he was awarded 38-13-0. On the opposite side of the pool Jason Atwell [Kingswinford] finished only one ounce behind Tromans when his card was marked with 38-12-0 at peg 10. Fourth came from the dam wall when Phil Rhodes [PI Bold] recorded 32-0-0 at peg 4.

Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] drew the same peg on two consecutive days in the week, and won from it both times. Sycamore peg 13 was the peg, which Andy first drew on Wednesday to register the first leg of his double by working with maggot on the pole at 5 metres, which he rotated with fishing at 10 metres. Carp and barbel homed in on the bait, with samples to 5lbs and 3lbs respectively making up a total catch of 65-4-0.

Runner up Carl Foster [PI Bold] was on peg 32 on the Chestnut Pool, where combining maggot and corn close in, and at 10 metres, saw him finish less than a pound behind the winner with 64-7-0 of carp to 5lbs. Bob Tromans was in the prize list again, filling third place thanks to 57-8-0 from Sycamore peg 45. That left Clive Wynn [Tricast Weston] to pick up fourth for his 45-5-0 from Sycamore 8.

On Thursday the barbel had moved out of peg 13, to be replaced by bream in the 2lb bracket joining in with the carp to 5lbs in snapping up William’s bait. Staying with the tactics which had given victory on Wednesday worked perfectly and this time the fish were more eager to grab the bait, helping Andy to record the best weight of week, 105-9-0, which put him over 40lbs clear of the field.

Second place was keenly contested between Mick Jameson [PI Bold] and Dave Brown [Maver] with only 6 ounces separating them at end of five hours. Jameson just held the advantage, helped by barbel to 4lbs joining the carp in his net at peg 39 to give figures of 62-6-0, while Dave had bream to 2lbs with his carp for a level 62-0-0 at peg 39. Corner peg 6 came up with 49-13-0 to give 4th to Rob Brennan [PI Bold].

Winning weights held up well going into the week-end when Chestnut peg 30 yielded 88-3-0 to hand the top prize to Steve Owen [Monkhall] on Saturday. Maggot continued as the dominant bait, and Steve worked it on the 12 metre pole as well as in the margins to pick off carp to 6lbs as well as barbel to 3lbs.

Sycamore peg 39 produced the runner up catch again, with a very similar weight to that of Thursday, this time for Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent]. Carp and bream on pellet and maggot at 5 metres saw Colin net 62-1-0. Matt Stobbs [Oak Ang Cent] won a close battle for third by scaling 51-4-0 at Chestnut 18, finishing ahead of Mick Jameson who had his second frame of the week with 49-9-0 from Sycamore peg 47.

Dave Brown moved up the ratings on Sunday to add a first place to his mid-week third when Chestnut peg 13 responded well to maggot at 13 metres, with carp, barbel and bream all featuring in the winning net of 97-5-0.

The Larch Pool gave second and third, with Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] finishing exactly 20lbs behind the winner on 77-5-0 at Larch 25. Mitch Davidson [OAC] followed with 68-14-0 from Larch 23, while fourth went to a Willows Pool top weight of 51-12-0 from Dave Hailey [PI Bold].

Boldings report

Boldings report    15-12-15.

Colin Reynolds [Bilston Ang Cent] has been absent from the top of the Monday frame in recent months at Boldings Pools, but rectified the matter this week with a narrow win on the Sycamore Pool. He led the way from peg 50 with a mix of carp to 5lbs and some barbel to 4lbs, tempted with maggot presented at 5 metres. His bag of fish put him just 3 ounces in front of Eric Bancroft [Rod & Gun] at peg 13.

Eric used maggot to fish at 5 metres as well as on the close in line for an all carp 42-15-0, made up with fish to 4lbs. Terry R

Edwards [Swan Elite] was over on the long bank, at peg 39, where 40-13-0 put him in a close third, just ahead of Graham Roberts [PI Boldings] on 40-5-0 at peg 45.

Pete Tolley [PI Bold] made his bid for the top honours in the Wednesday open on the Sycamore with a corn based attack at point peg 13. Working the bait at 5 metres and to each side of the point, Pete found some better carp, with samples to 8lbs adding up to a match winning 47-4-0.

Maggot and corn at 5 metres and into the corner at peg 45 found the fish for Bob Tromans [Fiery Holes], but smaller fish, carp to 4lbs, left shy of the target on 40-5-0. At peg 48 Gary Morris [PI Bold] put his name on third with a net of 34-12-0, and 25-10-0 from peg 39 gave Harry Colley [PI Bold] fourth.

Weights were up on Thursday, especially on the Beech Pool, with Dave Brown [Maver] proving king of the day with a very creditable 80-14-0. He drew peg 18, which he tackled with maggot on the 12 metre pole to net carp to 4lbs.

On Beech peg 23 Andy Jenkins [Ind] used maggot at 10 metres and 5 metres to pick off carp to 5lbs on his way to a 73-5-0 runner up weight. Third came from the Ash Pool, with Howard Williams [Tricast Weston] making the best catch, 57-13-0 at peg 7, which was followed by 54-11-0 from peg 18 by Jeff Harston [Wrexham].

A big turn out for the Boldings Fur & Feather on Saturday was met by some pretty awful weather and competitors were battered by rain and wind all day.

At the end of the day Andy Kyte [Middle Severn Angling] finished up the man with the most Christmas cheer after his bread punch on the tip, alternated with maggot on the pole at 8 metres put 87-9-0 of carp to 5lbs and barbel to 3lbs in the weigh net at peg 19 on the Willows Pool.

Paul Wheeler [PI Bold] was top man on the Sycamore with his second overall 55-6-0 at peg 33. Paul caught on maggot at 12 metres and 5 metres, and his net featured carp to 6lbs. The best weight from the Ash gave Jack O’Sullivan [Oakengates Ang Cent] third on the day, his 47-8-0 coming from peg 3. Back on the Sycamore Andy Williams [Colmic Vespe] claimed fourth by scaling 42-3-0 at peg 48 and a Chestnut best of 40-14-0 gave Keith Powell [PI Bold] fifth.

Top weight of the week came on Sunday, when the weather had settled down, and Paul Roberts [PI Bold] found the fish were on a feeding spree at Chestnut peg 32, after the previous days rain.

The barbel in the Chestnut have put on a fair bit of weight this year and Paul proved this with over 80lbs of them in a winning net of 118-7-0. His maggot bait, fished at 13 metres, accounted for barbel to 5lbs and carp to 7lbs.

Runner up Dave Pritchard [PI Bold] also included barbel in his 61-2-0 from Sycamore peg 47, with samples to 4lbs joining carp to 5lbs in snapping up Dave’s maggot bait on the 12 metre and 5 metre lines. Graham Roberts framed for the second time, his third placed 58-7-0 coming from Chestnut peg 4. Back on the Sycamore Kel Emlyn [OAC] finished off the frame with 51-14-0 from peg 13.
