Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  30-1-13.

They battled on through the snow and ice this week at Boldings Pools, with the aerators working flat out again to make fishing possible.

The going was toughest on Wednesday, when 13-5-0 was enough to hand victory to Mick Keene [Tricast Weston]. Mick’s fish, carp and roach, fell to maggot, fished 6 metres out at Oak peg 8. On the other side of the pool, at peg 29, Chris Jones [Carp Crew] made another of his recent regular visits to the Boldings prize table, collecting second with a mix of small carp, together with roach to a pound for 11-14-0. Richard Duke [Bridgnorth AS] netted a level 10-0-0 at peg 16 to finish in third, and Brian Clark [Colmic Marukyu] who framed twice last week, had the first of another two appearances this week, with a 4th placed 8-1-0 from peg 4.

Gary Morris [PI Boldings] added to his growing list of results by winning the Thursday open. Having peg 16 on the Ash, Gary worked pellet at 12 metres to tempt carp to 4lbs together with small roach to weigh in 27-14-0.

Nearly opposite, at peg 7, Brian Clark featured again, filling second spot this time with a maggot fed mix of carp and skimmers scaling 18-8-0. Next to Brian, at peg 5 was Dave Cole [Bronx] who finished third on 9-2-0 and opposite him, on peg 18, Tim Probert [PI Bold] weighed 8-4-0 in 4th.

With rain replacing the heavy snow of Friday night, the pools had to contend with snow water getting in, but there were still a few fish ready to be tempted. Chris Holmes [Middle Severn Angling] found carp to around the pound mark at peg 21 on the Oak, using pellet at 14 metres, and managed to coax 19 of them to his net for a weight of 21-1-0.

Peg 18 on the Ash featured again, giving second to Steve Owen [Mid Leisure] who alternated between the 11 metre and 14 metre lines using maggot. Small carp and some roach took the bait to give Steve a return of 14-10-0 for second. Up in the corner at Ash 9, Tony Foster [PI Bold] was a close third with 13-11-0, which just edged out Pete Plant [Maver Midlands] on 13-5-0 at ash 7.

Weights rose with the temperatures on Sunday, although there was still ice on some of the pools. Colin Wozak [Matrix TA] recorded the top weight of the week to register a narrow victory, winning with 36-7-0 from peg 16 on the Beech. Colin fished maggot and pellet at 14 metres to caught carp to 4lbs and roach to 1lb to make up his weight.

Hard on the winners heels was Mark Taylor [Shakespeare] who drawn on peg 5 on the Oak. He fished pellet along the side of the dam wall to find carp to 4lbs to finish less than a pound short on 35-10-0.

Chris Hill [Mosella] had the top weight from the Ash, 25-13-0, from peg 12 to fill third place, just ahead of Dave Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent] on 24-10-0 at Oak 13.

Boldings report

BOLDINGS REPORT  23-1-13.

With the aerators working overtime, some matches did go ahead at Boldings Pools, when anglers could get there that is. Wednesday and Thursday events went ahead before the full force of the snow hit, and on Wednesday Stephan Davies [Shrewsbury] won with a bread punch approach, offering his bait to the stumps at peg 27 on the Oak. Carp to 6lbs accepted, to give a winning total of 49-7-0.

Gary Morris [PI Boldings] kept up his run of results with the top weight from the Beech Pool, 34-4-0, which fell to pellet, fished at 10 metres at peg 16.  Next door, at peg 14, Brian Clark [Colmic Marukyu] pushed Morris all the way to the whistle, finishing within  4 ounces on 34-0-0. Chris Jones [Carp Crew] was 4th from Oak 31, where he weighed 29-13-0.

The Larch Pool gave a very similar winning weight on Thursday when Mick Jameson {Mid Leisure] worked maggot at 10 metres on peg 21. Mick found carp to 5lbs and bream to 2lbs ready to have a go, and he finished with a haul of 49-10-0. Round at peg 4 Brian Clarke moved up a place on the previous day. He also worked with maggot, which he presented at 16 metres, to tempt carp, bream and roach, but smaller samples of carp left him short of the winner on 40-1-0.

Over on peg 25 Russ Allen [ Oswestry] finished well behind Clark on 13-9-0 in third, with Dean Dickenson [Colmic] 4th on 11-14-0 at peg 16.

After the whiteout on Friday and Saturday the determined bunch who battled through on Sunday faced a struggle for bites in Arctic conditions, with Richard Lawson [Shrewsbury] just getting the better of the rest. He was on Beech peg 14 and fished close in with maggot to ease out 17-15-0 of carp, bream and roach.

Tim Probert [ PI Bold] opted for pellet at Ash peg 16, fishing it at 6 metres and down the side, to net all small carp for 17-6-0. Third went to David Emlyn [Oakengates Ang Cent] who had 15-12-0 at Ash 5 and at Ash 14 Neil Hicks [Rod & Gun] had 11-14-0 to complete the frame.
