BOLDINGS REPORT  24-4-12.

 

 

          The Monday open at Boldings Pools provided the tightest possible finish, with two anglers in a neck and neck race for top spot at pegs facing each other on the Middle Pool.

          Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) was on peg 11 and over on peg 1 Harry Colley (PI Boldings) was facing him.

          Mick fished pellet close into the bank and out at 4metres and had all small carp up to 3lbs, while over on peg 1 Harry offered meat and pellet down the side, and looked to have an advantage when bigger fish, carp to 7lbs responded. A faster catch rate with smaller fish just saw Mick edge the decision when the scales showed 78-6-0 at his peg and at Harry’s they stopped one ounce short on 78-5-0.

          Third came from the Stock Pool and was taken by Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) who was only 3lbs behind on 75-7-0 at peg 4. On Stock peg 11 Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) weighed 68-13-0 in 4^th.

 

          Harry Colley was involved in another close finish on Wednesday, but not as close as Monday, and this time it was Harry who emerged as victor.

          He was drawn on Hawthorn 15 and used his meat and pellet combination again to pick off carp to 8lbs on the close in line to weigh 74-5-0.

          At peg 5 on the same pool Phil Shaw (Lower Hill) found slightly smaller fish, with samples to 6lbs coming to his pellet at 6 metres, and down the side, which left him a couple of pounds short of the target on 72-2-0.

          Mick Jameson was in the mix again, having a pool best of 70-12-0 from Beech 20, and also on the Beech was 4^th man Andy Williams (Vespe) who was close behind on 70-7-0.

 

          PI Boldings rods claimed all the cash on Thursday, when 5lbs covered the frame weights. Top of the list was Tony Foster with a shallow pellet based 66-12-0 from Chestnut 18. Carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs made up the winning catch, while over on Oak peg 15, Keith Powell had all carp to 4lbs on maggot for his runner up 63-13-0.

          At Oak 8 Gary Morris netted a level 62-0-0 for third and back on the Chestnut, at peg 21, Carl Foster had 61-7-0 in 4^th.

 

          Weights were up on Saturday, with the Willows Pool proving to be the most productive, giving the top four catches. Best of these was taken by Jason Elwell(Phil’s Tackle) at peg 18. He chose a combination of pellet and paste to make a haul of ghosties to 6lbs, which gave a total of 89-10-0.

          Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) was next door on 19 where ghosties to 5lbs responded to his pellet at 12 metres, for a tally of 83-8-0. Last Sundays winner Clive Wynn (Tricast) added to Preston points haul by taking third with 80-1-0 at peg 8, and Thursdays winner Tony Foster picked up 4^th this time for his 72-3-0 at peg 12.

          Mick Jameson had another pool best with 66-0-0 from the Larch.

 

          Mark Lloyd (OAC) finished one fish short of a ton on Sunday, when his was the only frame weight from the Larch. He scaled 97-1-0 at peg 4, with carp to 8lbs accepting his pellet and corn, fished in the margins.

          The rest of the weights came from the Sycamore, the best of these going to Phil Rhodes (PI Bold) at peg 50. Phil fished pellet down the shelf, and into the corner for 94-6-0 worth of carp to 7lbs and bream to 2lbs. On point peg 13 Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) was a close third on 92-12-0 and only two ounces behind him was Ted Ecclestone (Stafford) on 92-10-0 at peg 33.

BOLDINGS REPORT  18-4-12.

 

          The Bank Holiday honours at Boldings Pools went to Dave Matson (Rod & Gun) on a day when three different pools gave the top three weights.

          Dave was on the Chestnut, at peg 36 and offered maggot and pellet at 5 metres as well as on the inside line, to pick off carp to 7lbs and barbel to 2lbs to post 87-8-0.

          At Willows peg 16 Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Ang Cent) worked maggot down the side and pellet at 7 metres and had carp to 6lbs for 81-14-0. Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was top man on the Oak and took third overall with 75-0-0 at peg 1, and back on the Willows Mitch Davidson (Maver) finished off the top four with 73-14-0.

 

          Andy Williams (Vespe) is having a good spring run at Boldings and scored another win this week, taking the main prize on Wednesday with 71-7-0 from Beech peg 11.

          On the point peg Keith Perrin (Tipton) collected second thanks to 58-6-0 which gave him four pounds advantage over Stuart Aston (Swan JT) on 54-6-0 at peg 18. Fourth came from the Ash Pool where Bill Stone (Tipton) had 47-9-0 at peg 9.

 

          Sean Barber (Maver Sonubaits) upped the ante on Thursday when he topped the ton from peg 16 on the Larch. Shallow fished pellet in open water combined with margin fishing put 105-7-0 on the scales for Sean.

          Colin Reynolds was in the frame again, moving up to second with a pellet based 82-12-0 from Larch 4.

          John Wild (Stafford) led the way on the Oak with 78-12-0 at peg 16 to fill third spot and on the Willows Rob Brennan (Wolverhampton) topped the card with 71-6-0 at peg 7.

 

          In the big Maver Match This qualifier on Saturday Les Thompson (Matrix Bait-Tech) ensured his place in the final later in the year with the top weight of week, just beating the standard set by Sean Barber on Thursday by scaling 106-3-0 at Chestnut peg 26. Fishing just short of the island with pellet kept Les busy taking 80 F1s to 3lbs during the match.

          Jamie Hughes (Maver Midlands) was over at peg 13 on the same pool where he contacted bigger fish, with carp to 7lbs joining bream to 3lbs in the net, but his catch rate couldn’t match the winners, leaving him on 80-2-0.

          Andy Bailey (Ind) finished in third with the top catch of the day from the Larch, 79-11-0 and close behind him on 78-8-0 was Brian Clarke (Colmic Marukyu).

 

          In addition to the Maver qualifier Boldings also ran their usual Saturday open which was won by Carl Foster (PI Boldings)from Oak peg 15. Fishing tight to the bank with pellet produced carp to 5lbs and barbel to 2lbs to give a tally of 82-9-0 for a narrow victory over Jeff Pearson (PI Bold). Jeff was on peg 5 on the Beech and had carp to 7lbs on pellet at 5 metres as well as close in for 80-5-0.

          Back on the Oak Richard Duke (BAS) weighed 68-9-0 at peg 27 to pick up third and at Beech 32 Dave Matson was in the frame again with 58-5-0 for 4^th.

 

          Clive Wynn (Tricast) added another six points to his Preston league total for April with a top spot on Sunday when his 88-13-0 was too good for the rest. Larch peg 11 proved successful for Clive, his pellet and corn approach finding carp to 8lbs on the close in line and out at 6metres.

          Brian Clark was in the list again, taking second this time from Larch peg 5. Brian fished pellet at 6 metres alternated with maggot close in to total 77-13-0.

BOLDINGS REPORT  11-4-12.

 

Mick Jameson (Mid Leisure) improved on his third place last Monday at Boldings Pools to take the winners purse this week. Pegged on the end of the dam at peg 5, Mick fished down the side with pellet, where carp in the 1lb to 4lbs range were lined up to accept his bait to give a return of 109-10-0.

          Up at the other end of the pool Josh Humphries (ABC) also worked with pellet, taking fish at 8 metres and close in on peg 22, where carp to 6lbs gave Josh 100-6-0.

          At peg 22 Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) finished 1`0lbs behind second on 90-4-0 and over on peg 8 Gary Morris (PI Boldings) put a level 88-0-0 on the scales.

 

          In the rain, sleet and blustery winds of Wednesday Matt Stobbs (Oakengates Ang Cent) found a hard earned 54-11-0 for victory at Deepdale peg 11, by offering corn and pellet at 10 metres and down the side.

          On the other bank at peg 3 Ian Hughes (Drennan NW) had small carp and skimmers on pellet at 8 metres to finish second on 50-4-0. Tony Foster (PI Bold) was top man on the Middle Pool, and third overall with 41-13-0 at peg 1, and back on the Deepdale Rino Stanko (Oak Ang Cent) collected fourth with his 38-13-0.

 

          Steve Hall had his trip down from Oswestry rewarded with a win on Thursday when carp and barbel on corn and pellet, fished to the island at Chestnut 21, gave a return of 76-3-0.

          Second came from the Sycamore, and was the first of three framing performances by Andy Williams (Vespe). Andy used maggot, pellet and corn at peg 34 to net 67-2-0.

          John Wild (Stafford) had his 62-8-0 for third at point peg 13 on the Sycamore, with 4^th coming from the Chestnut when Bob Tromans (Fiery Holes) scaled 46-6-0 at peg 26.

 

          Good Friday saw Harry Colley (PI Bold) collecting the coin on the Oak Pool when peg 5 came up with the top catch again. Meat and pellet, fished against the dam put carp to 5lbs in the net for Harry to register 51-12-0.

          Andy Williams was second again, having a weight of 48-5-0 this time, which came to maggot at 7 metres on peg 29. Colin Reynolds (Bilston Ang Cent) was a fish behind Andy on 45-4-0 at peg 24 and just behind Colin, Steve Owen (Mid Leisure) had 44-2-0 at peg 27.

 

          Winner of the Preston league for March at Boldings, Clive Wynn (Tricast Weston) picked up his first April points on Saturday when he took maximum points with a win from peg 28 on the Chestnut. Fishing pellet to the island and in the nearside margins produced carp to 7lbs to give a net of 83-3-0.

          John Wild (Stafford) collected the points for second place by topping the Sycamore card. He was on peg 1 and had carp to 8lbs with bream to 3lbs on pellet, fished into the corner and out at 6 metres to weigh 66-9-0. Third went to Wednesdays winner Matt Stobbs whose 56-11-0 came from Sycamore 11 and only 7 ounces behind Matt was Graham Thomas (Drennan NW) on 56-8-0 at Sycamore 49.

 

          Andy Williams added to his Preston points tally with his second successive Sunday win and his second top weight of the week in a row, which puts him top of the points table. His victory last week came from the Chestnut Pool, this time he was on the Sycamore, at peg 48, where maggot and bread stood him in good stead, attracting carp to 9lbs and bream to 3lbs to give figures of 118-15-0.

          Martin Harrell (Maver) finished second to Andy last week, and did so again on this match, his 98-6-0 being top score on the Larch. Martin fished pellet at 8 metres at peg 4 and caught carp to 7lbs.

          John Wild was in the frame and the points again, his third on the day putting him close behind Williams in the Preston points list.
