HONOURS SPREAD EVENLY AT BOLDINGS.

The prize money at Boldings Pools was well spread this week, with only one angler making the top four more than once.

First winner of the week was Alf Taylor (OB Wolves) with a narrow victory on the Wednesday open, when he drew peg 13 on the Sycamore, and worked corn and pellet close in to pick up carp to 8lbs and bream to 4 lbs, to ease ahead of Andy Williams (Telford) by just over 2lbs at the finish.

Andy also offered corn and pellet close in at peg 30 on the Chestnut, where he found carp to 7lbs and tench to 3lbs. When the scales had done their work Alf had 80-15-0 and Andy 78-12-0. One of those to make the frame twice in the week, Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) filled third spot when he scaled 62-13-0 at Chestnut 32, and Mick Jameson (Middy ML) completed the line up for the prizes with 56-1-0 at peg 49 on the Sycamore.

Andy Williams had to settle for second again on Thursday, even though he put over 140lbs on the scales. That was because Dave Barnard (Maver Wolves) made the biggest catch of the week. Both were on the Oak Pool, and both combined maggot and corn to tempt the fish. Dave was on peg 16 and had all carp, with fish from 1lb to 8lbs making up an impressive total of 162-1-0. Three pegs further along the same bank, Andy had carp to 7lbs for 140-11-0 at peg 13.

Carl Foster (OB Wolves) was top rod on the Ash Pool with 97-12-0 for third overall, then it was back to the Oak for 4th man Paul Evans (Storeys) on 87-13-0 at peg 8.

The triangular Stock Pool came up with a ton weight from each of its three sides on Saturday. Leading the way was Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling) with a corn and maggot fed 133-7-0, which featured carp to 9lbs, all on the close in line at peg 11. Runner up Tony Foster (OB Wolves) alternated shallow fished pellet at 12 metres with corn close in at peg 7 to find carp to 8lbs, which helped him to 107-3-0. Less than a pound and a half behind Tony was Dave Brown (Maver) on 105-12-0 at peg 4, and Ralph Johnson (Bilston Angling) almost made it four tons from the small pool when he scaled 98-1-0 at peg 2 to finish 4th. Best on the Deepdale was Pete Plant (Maver) with 77-7-0.

The Chestnut provided the top two weights on Sunday and a ton up winner for Duncan Newton (WB Clarke) who drew corner peg 40, and decided on a maggot approach. Fishing into the margins, he found carp to 9lbs and left the opposition some way behind with a final tally of 111-15-0.

Round at peg 15 Tony Faulkener (OB Wolves) who finished 6th on Saturday, fished pellet up in the water at 10 metres to take second this time with a mix of carp and bream for 82-13-0. Close behind was Harry Colley (OB Wolves) with the top catch from the Sycamore, a level 81lbs. Ed Turner (OB Wolves) was hard on Colley’s heels with 79-4-0 at Chestnut 7, and Mick Foan (Telford) was second on the Sycamore and 5th overall with 77-7-0/

THE BOLDINGS BONANZA CONTINUES.

Its rare these days for an open at Boldings pools to be won with less than 100lbs, and even then the winner tends to be close to the ton mark.

It happened on one of the four matches staged this week, when the first of the four events heavyweight frames was won with 98-2-0.

Oakengates Angling Centre boss David Emlyn was the man to start things off after he drew peg 7 on the Ash Pool. Working with paste and pellet, he netted carp to 8lbs on his way to victory.

Runner up Steve Roberts (Rod & Gun) also drew number 7, his being on the Beech where he took carp to 9lbs, fishing corn and pellet to each side of the point, and out at 5 metres, to bag 88-10-0. Just behind Steve, at peg 30 on the Beech, was the winners father, Kelvin Emlyn (Oakengates Angling Centre) who scaled 88-4-0 for third. Fourth also came from the Beech when last weeks top catcher David James (Mosella Storeys) put 70-15-0 on the scales at peg 22.

Thursday saw the top frame weights back up in the hundreds, with Boldings boss Ed Turner (OB Wolves) leading the way with 125-14-0 from peg 4 on the Sycamore. Ed opted for corn and pellet at 4 metres, and found carp to 10lbs.

Eric Bancroft (Rod & Gun) combined maggot and corn to fish down the edge at peg 30 on the Chestnut, to put together 104-5-0 of carp to 9lbs to finish second, and Mel Kitson (Rod& Gun) made a trio of tons with 101-10-0 from Sycamore 49. In 4th was last Wednesdays winner, Dave Barnard (Maver Wolves) on 84-8-0 at Chestnut 28.

Andy Williams (Telford) repeated his Saturday win of last week, and added 20lbs to his previous winning weight, taking the first of the week-end honours with 138-15-0. Last week his win came from peg 7 on the Beech Pool, this week he drew number 7 again, this time on the Hawthorn. His paste approach did the trick again, putting Andy 42lbs clear of runner up Colin Reynolds (Bilston Angling). He was on peg 1 on the Hawthorn, where he finished narrowly in front of Dave Brown (Maver) and Mick Williams (Rod & Gun).

Reynolds had a level 97-0-0, Brown scaled 96-6-0 at Hawthorn 3 and Williams topped the Stock Pool list with 95-5-0.

On Sunday Richard Lawson (Rod & Gun) headed the best frame of the week with the top bag of the week. He drew point peg 8 on the Sycamore and offered maggot to each side of the point, to pick up carp to 9lbs on his way to 144-10-0. That gave him a 20lb advantage over Dave Craggs (OB Wolves) who was on peg 36 on the same pool. He tempted carp to 8lbs and tench to 4lbs, with maggot and corn to finish on 124-9-0.

Duncan Newton (WB Clarke) was back in the frame, and a close third on 122-10-0 at Sycamore 46. best on the Beech was Pete Plant (Maver) with 96-12-0, which put him 4th overall.

Boldings Pools gave another full house of tons this week, with all four opens being won with over 100lbs, even though there was some awful weather to contend with again.

Wednesday and Thursday both produced all ton frames, with Thursday proving the highlight of the weeks proceedings.

Dave Barnard (Maver Wolves) started things off when he finished just ahead of Pete Plant (Maver) on Wednesday, taking top place from peg 32 on the Chestnut, where corn and pellet got the fish going, close in, with carp to 8lbs and bream to 3lbs adding up to 113-5-0.

Pete was on peg 47 on the Sycamore, and went out to 12 metres to offer caster up in the water for carp to 9lbs and tench to 4lbs, which gave a return of 112-14-0. Third placed Mel Kitson (Rod & Gun) was also on the Sycamore, at 8, and scaled a level 103-0-0, and David James (Mosella Storeys) completed a close frame with 101-14-0 at Sycamore 5.

On Thursday, David James moved up from 4th to 1st to head a tremendous frame with the top catch of the week, 184-9-0. The catch came to corn and pellet, fished close in at corner peg 28 on the Sycamore, and featured carp to 11lbs.

Andy Williams (Telford) was top man on the Chestnut, but had to settle for second overall, even though he netted 168-15-0, fishing maggot and corn, close in and out to the island to take carp to 9lbs. Third also came from the Chestnut when Warren Russon (MB Angling) offered up 133-0-0 to the scales at peg 32, then it was back to the Sycamore for 4th, with John Wild (Cudmore) ending the match with 129-6-0 at peg 13.

On Saturday Andy Williams was the one to move up the ratings, converting his second on Thursday to a first on the bigger week-end event.

He was the only one to make the ton this time, with 18-12-0 form point peg 7 on the Beech. A change of pools brought a change of tactics, and Andy caught on paste this time to catch carp to 11lbs close in and at 5 metres, to finish clear of a close battle for second.

That featured Mick Plant (OB Wolves) and Kevin Melville (Phoenix). Mick was on peg 3 on the Beech, and just claimed the place by fishing pellet and corn to each side of the peg for 81-13-0. Kevin was on Ash peg 14 and scaled 81-1-0, leaving Dave Brown (Maver) on 73-5-0 at Beech 9 to collect 4th.

A windy Sunday saw another lone ton top the list when Dave White (Maver Tipton) made peg 9 on the Beech a winner. He tackled the peg with shallow fished pellet, and found carp to 9lbs, out on the 12 metre line to rack up a 104-0-0 total. Mick Williams (Rod & Gun) wasn’t far off the ton with 97-7-0 on pellet and corn at Beech 23. Simon Richardson (Mosella) had 86-14-0 for third at Beech 14, and just behind him was Paul Evans (Storeys) on 85-11-0 at Beech 7.
